Bullets Explained

Bullets in Terraria are equipped in the Ammunition slot in the player's Inventory. They are needed to use guns.

Most bullets have special properties and unique debuffs that improve the outcome of boss fights and invasions. Five types are Pre-Hardmode-exclusive while the rest are obtainable in the Hardmode difficulty. 

After defeating the Wall of Flesh, the player can unlock stronger bullets in Terraria as the world progresses to Hardmode.
