When facing hordes of hostiles in Terraria, it’s an understatement to focus solely on weapons. Of course, when you’re speedrunning while farming resources more efficiently, it’s important to defeat them easily. But beware. Some players fell weak and lost because of not having decent accessories. That’s something you can improve.

The Frozen Shell in Terraria is one of many invaluable items you should consider using. It’s good for defense, after all. Read below as we reveal its function and the way to get one.

Frozen Turtle Shell – Overview

This accessory and crafting material is available upon reaching the Hardmode. Frozen Turtle Shell gives the Ice Barrier buff, which has different effects depending on the platform when playing Terraria. For old-gen consoles, you’ll get 30 defense when below 25% health. For the rest, you’ll receive a 25% damage reduction once your health drops to equal or below 50%

Because of the Frozen Turtle Shell’s utility, it synergizes well with the Shrimpy Truffle. The Shrimpy Truffle offers damage and speed boost once your health drops to or below 50%. Equipping the two when going against bosses or huge waves of enemies (events) is advisable for further utilization.

How to Get the Frozen Turtle Shell?

The accessory cannot be crafted, although it’s a crafting ingredient. However, killing Ice Tortoise has a 1% chance of receiving the Frozen Turtle Shell as a loot reward. You can always find them in the Ice biome and do the farming.

Item Upgrade

The Frozen Turtle Shell is a material necessary for making the Frozen Shield. All you need is a Paladin’s Shield (1) and the Tinkerer’s Workshop (Crafting Station) to begin.

10 Best hooks in Terraria https://avidgamer.gg/best-hooks-in-terraria/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=best-hooks-in-terraria Sat, 17 Sep 2022 17:16:06 +0000 https://avidgamer.gg/?p=1820 More...]]> The best hooks in Terraria can completely change your game experience. They are especially fantastic during pre-Hardmode when you have limited mobility. Although they eventually become replaceable, when you gain access to wings, they are still very fun to play with.

These items occupy a special slot. You use them by firing a chain toward a wall or a stable surface. Upon latching, you can pull yourself upward. Some of these tools can send forth several hooks simultaneously. That way, you can move between ledges without ever unhooking.

10 Best hooks in Terraria

When making this list, we focused on basic stats and features. We also considered how easy it’s to get a certain item. So, if a specific hook is really hard to obtain and there are similar alternatives, we would give the advantage to alternatives.

10. Web Slinger

Requires Web Covered Chest drop
Reach22.625
Velocity10
Hooks8
LatchingSimultaneous
RarityGreen
Sells for40 silver
EffectsYou can fire all hooks in quick success even if none of them latches to a surface

Web Slinger is one of the most fun items in this category. You can get it while traversing the Spider biome from one of the Web Covered Chests.

The thing that’s unique about the tool is that it allows you to cast eight arms simultaneously. If you’re proficient enough with it, you can quickly get out of deep chasms. However, as it has a relatively short reach compared to other pre-Hardmode hooks, you might need some time to get used to it.

In a way, this tool combines the best qualities of Dual Hook and Ivy Whip at the cost of low range. Although its range is somewhat acceptable on PC (22.625 tiles), it’s simply atrocious on all other platforms (15.625). So much so that using Web Slinger might become a choir for some players.

9. Fish Hook

Requires Angler drop
Reach25
Velocity13
Hooks2
LatchingSimultaneous
RarityOrange
Sells for40 silver
EffectsYou can fire three times in a quick succession

The cool thing about this item is that it has a fish attached at its end. So, when you send forth the chain, you can see this fish grabbing a surface.

The item has a cool feature that allows you to fire three lines one after another. They spread around quickly, similar to how Web Slinger works. However, unlike the previous entry on the list, this hook has a much longer reach making it a more viable item.

You might struggle a bit to acquire this tool. There’s a 1.7% chance to get it after finishing one of the Angler’s quests. This makes it a real treat for people who like to fish, but, unfortunately, most other players might never find this tool.

8. Skeletron Hand

Requires Skeletron drop
Reach21.875
Velocity15
Hooks2
LatchingSimultaneous
RarityGreen
Sells for90 silver
EffectsPulls player faster than other pre-Hardmode hooks

For a second, we were thinking of putting Bat Hook as our 8th entry. It’s a fantastic tool that has the best reach out of all pre-Hardmode items and is really fast. However, as it drops at a measly 0.67% rate and is only available during the Halloween event, we decided to give Skeletron Hand an advantage.

If you take a look at its stats, the utility item doesn’t look as much. Its reach is nothing to write home about, and it doesn’t have any special features. The thing that separates it from the other pre-Hardmode hooks is that it has the highest velocity. This makes Skeletron Hand a perfect item when you’re in a pinch.

Truth be told, we decided to add this tool based on our own experience. The speed is the second-most important feature of these items, as it allows you to get out of trap pits and lava.

7. Dual Hook

Requires Mimics drop
Reach27.5
Velocity14
Hooks2
LatchingIndividual
RarityLight Red
Sells for3 gold
EffectsEnds glow in red and light blue colors
You can fire two times in quick succession, although just one hook can latch

Dual Hook is probably the first thing that you’ll get during Hardmode. It’s decently available, dropping at a 14.29% rate from Mimics. It’s a nice upgrade over pre-Hardmode tools, at least in terms of reach. However, there are a few low-tier items that provide better velocity. So, you’ll have to decide which stat to prioritize.

The biggest problem with this item is not the speed, but the fact you can’t float in the air. This makes it harder for players who are not used to the latching mechanism. However, if you’re used to this mechanism, you’ll definitely appreciate the added range and ability to send forth two chains one after another.

6. Worm, Tendon, and Illuminant Hook

Requires Crimson, Hallowed, or Corrupt Mimics drops
Reach30
Velocity15
Hooks3
LatchingSimultaneous
RarityLight Purple
Sells for6 gold
EffectsN/A

For the most part, these items are interchangeable. The only difference is a slightly different design and the fact that they’re available within different infectious biomes. Speaking of the design, Illuminate Hook is the only item with a special effect, having glowing ends.

Worm and Tendon Hooks are relatively easy to acquire, having a 20% drop chance from Crimson or Corrupt Mimics. Illuminate is slightly better in that regard, dropping from Hallowed Mimics at a 25% rate.

They are a nice but not an impressive upgrade over Dual Hook. Still, it’s worth noting that these three items are easier to acquire.

5. Hook of Disonance

Requires Queen Slime drop
Reach30
Velocity16
Hooks1
LatchingSingle
RarityPink
Sells for5 gold
EffectsTeleports the character to the location where the hook latched
Doesn’t teleport through obstacles

If you know how to use these tools, you’ll likely prefer Hook of Dissonance over the previous three entries. Although this tool can’t cast three chains simultaneously, like the ones from the previous entry, it has an interesting feature that helps with fast traveling.

In other words, the item instantly teleports a player to where the hook latched. As soon as you get ahold of a surface, you will appear at that exact point. This is a great way to avoid damage and reposition yourself during clutch fights. The teleporting feature also saves you time when traveling around the map.

4. Spooky and Christmas Hooks

Requires Mourning Wood and Everscreem drops
Reach34.375
Velocity15.5
Hooks3
LatchingSimultaneous
RarityLime
Sells for4 gold
EffectsN/A

This is another set of mirror tools. These two items are completely the same in terms of their stats. The only difference is that the Christmas Hook has glowing ends and chains.

Overall, these are not bad tools to have around. Their latch distance is among the best in the game, although the velocity isn’t that amazing. You can use them to send forth three chains at the same time, which is a feature that most Hardmode hooks have.

The biggest issue with these items is that they’re not that common. Spooky Hook is a bit better in that regard, dropping from Mourning Wood at a 2% to 20% rate. Christmas Hook is much harder to get, having a 5.19% to 7.78% chance to drop from Everscream.

3. Anti-Gravity Hook

Requires Martian Madness enemies drops
Reach31.25
Velocity14
Hooks3
LatchingSimultaneous
RarityLime
Sells for2 gold, 50 silver
EffectsA player can hover 12 tiles around a latch point in any direction

This particular tool has one of the coolest features of all the items within the category. Upon grabbing a surface, it allows you to levitate around the latch point. You can move around freely within 12 tiles of the location.

In other words, you can use it to run circles around a block. This is especially useful against specific flying enemies like Duke Fishron or Mothron. By latching to a flying block with this tool, you can easily avoid deadly dash abilities.

The item is also nice when climbing smooth walls. You grab a surface and hold up, and the character will move upwards at a fast speed. As if all that isn’t cool enough, you can get the item from any enemy during Martian Madness events, making it one of the easiest late-game hooks to obtain.

2. Static Hook

Requires Sold by Steampunker for 50 gold
Reach37.5
Velocity16
Hooks2
LatchingIndividual
RarityRed
Sells for10 gold
EffectsYou can fire two times in quick succession, although just one hook can latch
Grabbing a surface will not put character towards it
A character can adjust distance alongside a chain
A character doesn’t move while latching to a different surface

First off, this is probably the easiest hook to acquire in the game. You can buy it at any time from Steampunker for just 50 gold. In that regard, you can just purchase it at the start of the Hardmode at disregard all the other entries on the list.

Another reason why this item is at the top of our list is its enormous reach. You can use it to grab ahold of a surface almost 40 tiles away.

Despite the fact that it has great features and stats, most people prefer using Lunar or Anti-Gravity Hook when they reach end-game content. This is because Static Hook is much more suitable for building. You can move a character along the chains, which makes it easier to reach high platforms and roofs.

1. Lunar Hook

Requires Nebula Fragment (6), Stardust Fragment (6), Solar Fragment (6), and Vortex Fragment (6) assembled at Ancient Manipulator
Reach34.375
Velocity18
Hooks4
LatchingSimultaneous
RarityRed
Sells for10 gold
EffectsEach chain and hook glows in the colors of the original component
A character can fire all the hooks simultaneously even if none of them has hit a surface

Lunar Hook is much harder to assemble than Static Hook. You need to kill various Pillars to gather all the components necessary for this tool. The item performs better during combat, and overall, it feels better to use.

Before we get into stats, we need to mention the item’s incredible design. Each chain has a different color, according to its underlying component (Nebula Fragment is purple, Solar Fragment is orange, etc.) All these colors mash well together, and once you start firing chains, they will take over the entire screen.

Furthermore, there’s also an order in which you fire these chains. Orange Solar Fragment goes first, followed by green Vortex, pink Nebula, and blue Stardust. You can fire all of them almost simultaneously, at high speed. Speaking of speed, this is the fastest hook in the game, both in terms of chain velocity and pulling forth the player.

Where to get Sturdy Fossil in Terraria? https://avidgamer.gg/sturdy-fossil-in-terraria/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=sturdy-fossil-in-terraria Sat, 17 Sep 2022 12:47:52 +0000 https://avidgamer.gg/?p=1792 More...]]> Farming Sturdy Fossil in Terraria is much easier than you might think. Inexperienced players sometimes stumble upon this resource when venturing into the Desert biome but don’t spend enough time collecting it. However, spending some time to acquire 60 pieces would allow you to create Fossil Armor, a powerful set for rangers.

With this resource, you can also make a solid caster item, two throwing weapons, an upgraded Bomb, and a new pickaxe. Throwing weapons, in particular, go well with the armor set, and you can use them to stomp pre-Hardmode.

How to acquire Sturdy Fossil in Terraria?

This material is unique to the Desert biome. You can get it from local endemic species and crates that are spread throughout the area. Players can acquire the mineral from drops/loot or by using Extractinator. However, you cannot mine it, unlike the traditional ores. Here’s how to get the material:

  • Basilisk drop (33.3% chance, only on Hardmode)
  • Tomb Crawler drop (50% chance)
  • Oasis Crate (50% chance)
  • Mirage Crate (50% chance)
  • 10% chance to get Sturdy Fossil when you put Desert Fossil in Extractinator

Ideally, you should roam around the region trying to find Oasis and Mirage Crates. Besides having a high chance of dropping Sturdy Fossil, they also store numerous pieces. You can find 10 to 16 units inside these crates compared to 1 or 2 that drop from Basilisks and Tomb Crawlers.

There isn’t a general strategy that would help you acquire these materials. For example, there isn’t a Tomb Crawler statue that would quickly spawn these creatures. Perhaps the best way to go about things is to rush the Crates, but you shouldn’t neglect Tomb Crawlers you come across.

As you go around the biome, you should also keep every piece of Desert Fossil you come across. When you return to base, you can put the resource into Extractinator. If you’re a ranged character, you can always utilize Sturdy Fossils, as they allow you to create Bone Javelins and Bone Throwing Knives.

Although you can also get this mineral from Basilisks, the monster is only available on Hardmode. In other words, by the time the creature spawns, the resources will become obsolete.

Items made from Sturdy Fossil

Crafting with Sturdy Fossil is somewhat similar to making items from traditional ores. You can create a signature set and a pickaxe, but this is where the similarities end. You don’t have access to swords, bow, repeater, pike, hammer, or axe.

Items made from the material help with the ranged combat. The set, in particular, is great for players who just want to use throwing weapons. Here are all the items you can make from this material:

  • Scarab Bomb
  • Amber Staff
  • Bone Javelin
  • Bone Throwing Knife
  • Fossil Greaves
  • Fossil Helmet
  • Fossil Plate
  • Fossil Pickaxe

To make all this equipment, you’ll need a total of 87 Sturdy Fossil pieces.

Scarab Bomb

Unlike its predecessor, Scarab Bomb can stick to objects. It’s much easier to handle and is especially nice when destroying Shadow Orbs and Crimson Heart. Unlike the majority of explosives, it creates vertical blasts. This feature makes it relevant throughout the game. Scarab Bomb is primarily used for clearing space but can also be a fantastic weapon.

Amber Staff

This caster item has the same stats as Ruby Staff. It doesn’t excel at anything, and you’ll quickly swap it with something better.

Bone Javelin

Bone Javelin is an excellent weapon that you can use throughout pre-Hardmode. It does solid 20 damage leaving Penetrated debuff on enemies. This effect does 3 damage per second for 15 seconds. You can stack the debuff 6 times for a total of 18 damage per second.

Unfortunately, Bone Javelin doesn’t penetrate enemies. In that sense, it isn’t the best choice during events and certain boss fights. However, it can be an excellent choice against single targets.

Bone Throwing Knife

Bone Throwing Knife is another unique weapon that you can make from this mineral. Unlike its predecessor, it doesn’t leave a debuff. Still, it can penetrate up to five enemies making it an optimal choice in certain situations. The throwing weapon is also incredibly quick.

Fossil Pickaxe

This mining tool has 55% pickaxe power, which puts it on the same level as Gold Pickaxe and is slightly weaker than Platinum Pickaxe. However, it’s worth noting that this item is slightly faster than both of them. Although the tool cannot mine the same blocks as 70% mining power Deathbringer Pickaxe, it has the same effective speed.

The best thing about this item is that you can get it relatively quickly as there aren’t any special requirements for obtaining Desert Fossil.

Fossil Armor

To assemble this armor, you’ll need Greaves, Helmet and Plate. The complete set provides 13 defense, a 50% chance of retaining thrown items, and a 20% chance of retaining ammo after firing a weapon.

Individual pieces provide some extra perks to ranged combatants. Helmet increases ranged critical hit by 4% while increasing throwing weapons‘ speed by 20%. Plate increases critical for throwing weapons by 15% and ranged damage by 5%. Lastly, greaves improve throwing damage by 20% and ranged critical by 4%.

The armor remains relevant throughout the game. For example, it provides a few major benefits to quick, ranged weapons such as Minishark. Of course, it also helps reduce the consumption of Bone Throwing Knives and Bone Javelins.

How to make The Grand Design in Terraria? https://avidgamer.gg/the-grand-design-in-terraria/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=the-grand-design-in-terraria Sat, 17 Sep 2022 09:53:15 +0000 https://avidgamer.gg/?p=1785 More...]]> Using The Grand Design in Terraria is a bit tricky if you’re unacquainted with traps and mechanisms. However, if you know how they work, this item will make your life much easier. It allows you to place and remove wires and actuators, thus making traps operable.

It combines the functionality of several tools. You can use its ruler to measure distances between blocks. The Grand Design is also excellent for placing several wires at once or removing specific wires from an active mechanism. With actuators, you can activate or deactivate all these systems.

The Grand Design basic stats and features

Here are the item’s basic stats and effects:

Requires Multicolor Wrench, Ruler, Mechanical Lens, Wire (60) assembled at Tinkerer’s Workshop
TypeMechanism, Tool
RarityGreen
Sells for4 gold
EffectsAllows you to manage and alter wiring systems
Works by right-clicking and highlighting the components

The best thing about this tool is that you can get all its components from two NPCs. Goblin Tinkerer sells the Ruler, while Mechanic sells all other parts. In total, you’ll have to invest 14 gold and 10 silver to complete the recipe.

The item is not available straight away. You’ll have to finish the Goblin Army event to unlock Goblin Tinkerer, and you need to kill Skeletron for Mechanic to spawn on the map.

How do you use The Grand Design in Terraria?

If you have experience with mechanisms, this item is relatively straightforward. Like with any other tool, you should first equip it within the inventory (you don’t have to place it in equipment slots).

Once in inventory, there are two methods of using it. First off, you can hold the item in your hands and use the left-click to place pre-assigned wires. Alternatively, right-clicking while the item is equipped opens the wiring and actuator menu. The second approach is much better. Besides giving you access to the menu, it also provides the ruler function.

When you open the menu, there is a large button in the center that you can toggle on/off for placement or removal of components. There are also five smaller buttons surrounding the central button: red wire, green wire, blue wire, yellow wire, and actuators. By clicking on certain wires, you can decide which ones you want to place or remove.

The Grand Design allows you to remove certain wires while leaving the rest intact. You can also use it for precision work, given that the ruler feature is fantastic for calculating the terrain. In that regard, you can even use the tool when creating other structures.

As long as you’re carrying the item, seven new buttons will appear left of the inventory. You can toggle these features on and off to show or hide wires, actuators, and ruler on the map. Although it’s much better for them to be active so that you can see the mechanisms, some players prefer turning some of them off.

Lastly, for some of these features to be available, you’ll need to carry extra actuators and wires in your inventory. It’s also worth mentioning that the item is great for removing hostile traps and mechanisms, as it shows the wiring lines.

How does this item differ from its components?

Although The Grand Design has the same traits as its wiring tool ingredients, these features are a bit different:

  • The Grand Design is much better than its processors as it allows players to create a line of wire. Previously, you had to place the mechanism piece by piece, which could be annoying. You just need to hold the attack button, move the wire abound and release the button when you’re done.
  • When you use this tool for placement or removal, you can choose the direction of the line by moving the character in a certain direction. If you go to your right, the first part of the line will go upward and then horizontally toward the cursor. If you’re facing left, the mechanism travels horizontally, at first, and then turns vertically.
  • The Grand Design allows you to create massive structures. You can use it to install approximately 1,000 units of wire and/or actuators during one placement. All of that can be done while moving around. This is especially important when placing long-distance mechanisms like Teleporters.
  • For fast placement, you can use flying mounts like UFO.
  • When using the basic mode of installment (holding the left button), the action will stop after one minute, whether you used 1,000 units or not.
  • Unlike the usual wrenches, The Grand Design doesn’t care about placement range limits. In other words, you can use the item to install wires well beyond your base.
  • The tool’s removal function is much better than that of Wire Cutter. When using the Cutter, a removed component will appear at the place of removal. Because of that, there are situations where you can’t retrieve material. With The Grand Design, it always appears under the character’s feet.
  • This mechanical item has the same functionality as Multicolor Wrench. In other words, you can use it to install four wires simultaneously or to remove specific wires from a system.

Terraria Ankh Shield: The best way to avoid debuffs https://avidgamer.gg/terraria-ankh-shield/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=terraria-ankh-shield Fri, 16 Sep 2022 17:07:40 +0000 https://avidgamer.gg/?p=1759 More...]]> Terraria Ankh Shield is one of the best items in the game. It’s extremely versatile, and you can use it for just about any class. Although it doesn’t give any defensive or offensive stats, it makes your life that much easier. The accessory shines when moving around the map, allowing you to avoid all these annoying effects.

It’s hard to explain all the steps you have to take to acquire the item. The process is extremely arduous, and almost all of its ingredients are acquired during Hardmode. We suggest that you don’t focus too much on its creation. Instead, enjoy your playthrough while trying to gather all the components that randomly drop along the way.

Terraria Ankh Shield stats and effects

Here are the item’s basic stats and effects:

Requires Obsidian Shield and Ankh Charm assembled at Tinkerer’s Workshop
TypeAccessory, Shield
RarityLime
Sells for5 gold
EffectsMakes a player immune to fire blocks and knockback
Provides immunity to most debuffs in the game

People who criticize this item often mention the lack of stats. Debuff immunity is universal and can serve in various situations, but it doesn’t increase your defense or offense against bosses. So, depending on what you’re looking for, it’s often better to go with some other accessories.

Despite not being a viable option against someone like Moon Lord or Empress of Light, there are a few situations where Ankh Shield shines. For example, it’s a great choice against Hardmode Brain of Cthulhu. You can also use it as you’re moving around the map to avoid burn damage, poison from hornets, slow from mummies, etc.

Assembling the item

As mentioned, collecting Ankh Shield’s components one by one is a fool’s errand. There are simply too many of them, and you’ll get bored doing it (unless you’re a hardcore RPG adventurer). Instead, it’s much better to focus on improving other equipment, in particular ore-based weapons and armor.

If this is your first time playing Terraria, we suggest that you collect all accessories in the game marked as “Material.” You’ll use some of them to create Ankh, while the rest will serve for assembling other top-tier accessories. For example, you’ll use them for stuff such as Terraspark Boots, Cell Phone, and other cool thingies.

Of course, if you lack just a few components, you can grind them, but there’s no point in pursuing all of them from the start. If you’re still persistent in obtaining Ankh Shield, here’s everything that you’ll need to finish the recipe:

  • Obsidian Skull (requires 20 obsidian pieces assembled at Furnace)
  • Cobalt Shield (Gold Chest or Gold Lock Box drop – 14% chance)
  • Obsidian Shield (Obsidian Skull and Cobalt Shield assembled at Tinkerer’s Workshop)
  • Blindfold (Corrupt Slime, Crimslime, Shadow Slime, Slimeling, Dark Mummy, or Blood Mummy drop – 1% chance)
  • Vitamins (Corruptor or Floaty Gloss drop – 1% chance)
  • Armor Polish (Armored Skeleton or Blue Armored Bones drop – 1% chance)
  • Armor Bracing (Vitamins and Armor Polish assembled at Tinkerer’s Workshop)
  • Adhesive Bandage (Rusty Armored Bones, Angler Fish, or Werewolf – 1% chance)
  • Bezoar (Moss Hornet, Hornet, or Toxic Sludge – 1% chance)
  • Medicated Bandage (Adhesive Bandage and Bezoar assembled at Tinkerer’s Workshop)
  • Nazar (Cursed Hammer, Crimson Axe, Dragon Skull, Cursed Skull, Giant Cursed Skull, or Enchanted Sword – 1% chance)
  • Megaphone (Pixie, Green Jellyfish, Dark Mummy, or Blood Mummy drop – 1% chance)
  • Countercurse Mantra (Nazar and Megaphone assembled at Tinkerer’s Workshop)
  • Trifold Map (Light Mummy, Clown, or Giant Bat – 1% chance)
  • Fast Clock (Mummy, Wrath, Pixie – 1% chance)
  • The Plan (Trifold Map and Fast Clock assembled at Tinkerer’s Workshop)
  • Ankh Charm (Blindfold, Medicated Bandage, Armor Bracing, The Plan, and Countercurse Mantra assembled at Tinkerer’s Workshop)

Most of these pieces drop exclusively during Hardmode. Some of the creatures are really hard to find, which is especially true for Blood Mummy and Dark Mummy. What’s worse, the drop chance for every accessory is one percent. The only positive thing is that you won’t have to kill any bosses.

How good is Ankh Shield?

When playing Terraria, players more often die to burn, poison, and frostbite than to bosses’ physical damage. We often neglect the impact of these debuffs, but they’re the things that get us the most. In that regard, whether or not you prioritize Ankh Shield depends on how you perceive these effects.

Before analyzing the accessory, we need to mention all the things that Ankh Shield protects you from:

  • Confused
  • Silencer
  • Burning
  • Chilled
  • Poisoned
  • Weak
  • Darkness
  • Broken Armor
  • Cursed
  • Bleeding
  • Slow
  • Knockback
  • Fire Blocks

It’s also worth noting that the item’s tooltip is rather deceiving. The developers wrote that the accessory protects you from most debuffs, but, in reality, it provides immunity to less than a half. The wearer can still be affected by Cursed Inferno, Blackout, Frozen, Withered Armor, Venom, Ichor, Electrified, Moon Bite, and Distorted.

We suggest that you use the item when traveling around the world. When you start battling bosses, it’s much better to focus on accessories that increase damage, critical strike, defense, or regeneration.

Who is Estee in Terraria and how to get it? https://avidgamer.gg/estee/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=estee Fri, 16 Sep 2022 14:37:35 +0000 https://avidgamer.gg/?p=1753 More...]]> Estee is a small pet in a shape of a star. Like all other creatures from this category, it follows you around, providing companionship. You need Celestial Wand to summon the entity.

Celestial Wand stats and features

Here are the item’s basic stats and effects:

Requires Bought for 1 platinum from Traveling Merchant
TypePet summon
RarityPink
Sells for20 gold
EffectsGrants Estee buff

If you carefully read the table above, you’ll notice that this pet is categorized as a buff. As soon as you summon it, the Estee icon will appear on the screen.

This cosmetic minion is invulnerable, and it remains active for as long as you live. Alternatively, you can get rid of it by pressing the buff icon. In that regard, it’s similar to other game effects. Another way to remove it is by logging out; the creature doesn’t remain active through several playthroughs.

When purchasing Celestial Wand, you’re not actually purchasing just the tool. Instead, you’re getting the whole Star Princess Set. It consists of Star Princess Dress, Star Princess Crown, and, of course, Celestial Wand. Keep in mind that the set isn’t always available, so you’ll likely have to visit the vendor several times.

All these items have to be equipped in vanity slots to take effect. The only exception is the Celestial Wand, which you can use once and put aside (similar to other tools). The item doesn’t even have to stay in your inventory for summon to remain active.

Who is Estee, and what does it do?

As previously mentioned, this is a small creature in a shape of a yellow star with cute black eyes. It’s continuously changing its shading, becoming brighter or dimmer. According to the developers, the pet is meant to pay homage to Power Stars from Super Mario 64. Estee also resembles Lumas from Super Mario Galaxy.

As for the Star Princess set and Celestial Wand, as a whole, they also reference the world’s most popular plumber. They’re made to look like Rosalina’s outfit. As you can presume, she is also a character from Super Mario Galaxy.

Despite its cute appearance, you can’t expect much from this jovial star. It just goes around, not doing anything to help the main character. When falling or moving at high speeds, the creature leaves a beautiful trail behind it. However, this is only a visual effect and doesn’t have an impact on the gameplay.

Estee is always positioned behind you, just a bit above your head. Although this cosmetic minion looks like a star, it doesn’t shine any light in its vicinity. Like with other cosmetics, you can dye it in different colors. Using Reflective Obsidian Dye will make the summon look like Fallen Star.

Is Estee worth the money?

Whether or not this critter is worth one platinum coin is up to you. We’re big fans of Super Mario and love the references. So much so that a few of our team members only use this pet during their Terraria adventures.

Anyway, if you’ve come to the end of the game and have all these items unlocked, one platinum coin won’t make much of a difference. Even if you don’t like Estee after seeing it in action, we think that the spunky star is worth the try.

Everything you should know about Terraria Nightmare Pickaxe https://avidgamer.gg/terraria-nightmare-pickaxe/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=terraria-nightmare-pickaxe Fri, 16 Sep 2022 12:34:43 +0000 https://avidgamer.gg/?p=1747 More...]]> Terraria Nightmare Pickaxe is an excellent pre-Hardmode tool that you can assemble rather easily. It’s one of the few items that allows you to collect obsidian, hellstone, ebonstone, and crimstone during this phase of the game.

There’s a good chance that you’ll use this item during the entire pre-Hardmode until you gain access to better mining tools. Experienced players often rush it, as it allows them to extract just about anything during the early game.

Terraria Nightmare Pickaxe stats and features

Here are the item’s basic stats and effects:

Requires Demonite Bar (12) and Shadow Scale (6) assembled at Steel Anvil or Iron Anvil
TypeTool
Pickaxe power65%
Damage9
Knockback3
Critical chance4%
Use time20
Tool speed15
RarityBlue
Sells for36 silver

Like all items from this category, Nightmare Pickaxe is primarily used for mining. It is a major upgrade over its Silver and Tungsten counterparts and slightly better than the Gold and Platinum variant. You can use it for the entirety of pre-Hardmode without having any issues.

The item allows players to destroy crismtone and ebonstone blocks, making it easier to venture through the Crimson and the Corruption biomes. In turn, you can create passages to Crimson Hearts and Shadow Orbs, whose destruction summons Eater of The Worlds or Brain of Cthulhu.

Most importantly, Nightmare Pickaxe allows you to dig obsidian and hellstone. By combining these two materials, you can create Hellstone Bars, which are a necessary ingredient for Molten Pickaxe. Once you have this tool, you can start extracting the first Hardmode resources, that is, Cobalt and Palladium Ores.

Nightmare Pickaxe as a weapon

Like all other items from this category, you can use Nightmare Pickaxe as a melee weapon. The tool has the same damage as Silver Shortsword, although it attacks at a slower speed.

Most players use it in such a capacity when creating new mine shafts and stumbling upon random opponents. If you’re too lazy to swap gear, you can just keep swatting with the mining equipment and destroy low-tier enemies. Of course, you shouldn’t use it against bosses as this would make the fights cumbersome.

We always recommend players to first create a pickaxe when they gain access to a new ore. These tools are crucial for your progression as they allow you to mine new resources and, thus, create new armor sets and weapons. Although Nightmare’s damage cannot compare to that of Light’s Bane, it’s not a big downgrade compared to something like Golden Broadsword.

How to get the item?

To acquire this tool, you need just two components: Demonite Bar and Shadow Scale. If you know what you’re doing, you can get this item extremely quickly, almost at the start of the game.

Demonite Bar is a material that you make from Demonite Ore. This is one of the best resources pre-Hardmode that you can extract with Gold or Platinum Pickaxe. It’s found in the deep layers of the earth, close to lava level, so you’ll need to do some digging to reach it.

Before you get to the ore, you’ll get enough gold and platinum to assemble the tool required for its extraction. Once you have it, you can easily smelt the material into bars with a regular Furnace.

Getting Shadow Scale is a bit trickier. It only drops from Eater of Worlds, which you can summon by offering Worm Food at Demon Altar. You can make this item from Rotten Chunks (15) and Vile Powder (30). Alternatively, you can call forth the boss by destroying three Shadow Orbs.

Rotten Chunks drop from several Corruption enemies. Vile Powder is made from Vile Mushrooms, which are easily obtainable from the surface of the Corruption biome. To create Vile Powder, you’ll also need Placed Bottle or Alchemy Table. We suggest using Placed Bottle for assembly, as you can get it much quicker.

Rushing Nightmare Pickaxe

In theory, you can get this tool immediately, as soon as you get the first few Bombs. Going all the way to the bottom of the map to get Demonite Ore is unnecessary as you can get the material from Eater of Worlds.

To quickly access the boss, you can go immediately to the Corruption biome and grind materials for Worm Food. Alternatively, you can start exploring the Caverns below Forest and get Bombs from Chests. With explosives, you can destroy ebonstone tiles blocking the way to Shadow Orbs. Then, you can use the same items to destroy the Orbs.

If you choose to go with Bombs, you’ll need approximately 15 to 20 pieces. The number of explosives depends on your ability to hit Shadow Orbs, which are levitating in the air. After you destroy three of them, Eater of Worlds will automatically appear nearby.

How good are Terraria Celestial Cuffs? https://avidgamer.gg/terraria-celestial-cuffs/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=terraria-celestial-cuffs Fri, 16 Sep 2022 08:46:39 +0000 https://avidgamer.gg/?p=1741 More...]]> Terraria Celestial Cuffs are a premium mana management accessory. The best thing about the item is that you can find its component quickly during pre-Hardmode. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to assemble it before Hardmode as you need Tinkerer’s Workshop to combine all the pieces.

Terraria Celestial Cuffs are not that great during boss fights. Increased mana pool and restoration are nice, but they don’t do anything to improve your defense or offense. Star pickup range is especially useless in these situations. It also doesn’t help that you need to take hits for the item to be effective.

Terraria Celestial Cuffs stats and features

Here are the item’s basic stats and effects:

Requires Magic Cuffs and Celestial magnet assembled at Tinkerer’s Workshop
TypeAccessory
RarityPink
Sells for3 gold, 20 silver
EffectsIncreases the range of Mana Star pickup
Increases mana reserves by 20
Taking damage restores mana to the character

Celestial Cuffs are primarily a mage item. This is a fantastic accessory when traversing the map, as it provides a lot of sustain. Increases Mana Star pickup range is a nice buff that makes your life slightly easier. On the other hand, the accessory gives you enough mana during prolonged monster fights.

Mana restoration is equal to the damage taken before calculating defense. In other words, taking a strong hit can replenish approximately half of your reserves. Another awesome thing is that you’ll never get less than 10 mana, making the accessory ideal against low-damage opponents.

Keep in mind that this effect doesn’t work on DoTs and drowning damage. However, the item will replenish your reserves when you take damage from a fall. The effect doesn’t stack with Magic Cuffs.

How to assemble the item?

You can find most of the Cuffs components as you’re moving around the world. The majority of them drop from chests or are made from Mana and Life Crystals. The only exceptions are Shackle (drops from Zombies) and Celestial Magnet (sold by Traveling Merchant).

An interesting thing about the recipe is that you can find certain materials in Crimson worlds, while some of them are exclusive to Corruption. In other words, Panic Necklace is a drop from Crimson Heart, Crimson, and Hematic Creates. Band of Starpower drops from Shadow Orbs and can be found in Defiled and Corrupt Crates.

While these are biome-specific drops, you can also assemble them at a crafting station. So, while it might seem that you need two playthroughs to get all the materials, it isn’t actually so.

Finding the components is not that big of an issue, but assembling them is a different story. To combine all these ingredients, you’ll have to use Tinkerer’s Workshop four times. In other words, you’ll have to plan the item’s creation ahead of time, keeping all these pre-Hardmode components in a stash.

Should I use this accessory?

Our main issue with the item is that it’s not as good as some offensive or defensive accessories. For example, Mana Cloak also increases your reserves but also adds to your offensive prowess. Celestial Shell gives you a bit of everything, while Celestial Emblem provides the highest damage boost.

To properly utilize Terraria Celestial Cuffs, you have to continuously take damage. This is the last thing you want as a mage. Of course, you’ll get hit from time to time, but you cannot allow yourself to take several blows in succession.

If we were to recommend a mage build, we would go with Sorcerer Emblem, Celestial Shell, Celestial Emblem, Mana Cloak, and Arcane Flower. In theory, you could replace Arcane Flower with Celestial Cuffs. However, if you’re a careful player or if you’re playing Expert/Master mode, Arcane Flower is more valuable.

Although our analysis might seem condemning, there are situations where Cuffs are an excellent choice. Always remember that killing opponents with magic weapons spawns Mana Stars, which you can use to refill reserves. Because of that, the accessory performs fantastic against minion-summoning bosses and during events.

How to make a Chain in Terraria? https://avidgamer.gg/how-to-make-a-chain-in-terraria/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=how-to-make-a-chain-in-terraria Fri, 16 Sep 2022 06:04:43 +0000 https://avidgamer.gg/?p=1735 More...]]> People often wonder how to make a Chain in Terraria. Although this material is used for numerous recipes, it’s not that common. We use it to assemble watches, chandeliers, Grappling Hook, and Sawmill. Given that most of these items are cosmetics that you don’t actually need, you won’t have that many opportunities to create this material.

One interesting thing about this item is that you can use it like Rope to climb walls. You can place it just about anywhere and use it to get out of chasms. Like with Rope, you can combine numerous Chain pieces to create a net that you can use for vertical and lateral movement.

How to make a Chain in Terraria?

Here’s the basic recipe that gives you ten pieces of Chain:

  • Steel or Iron Bar
  • Steel or Iron Anvil (crafting station)

The recipe is straightforward, and you can make the first pieces at the start of the game. Steel and Iron Ore are readily available, and you only need one unit to complete the item. You can stack 999 pieces, and each one of them sells for two silver.

Although you can use it for climbing, as previously mentioned, most people only use it as a material for other stuff. So, if this is your first playthrough, there is a good chance you won’t have the need to assemble Chain for a while.

However, the item becomes a bit more common in the late game when you start messing with house designs. Aside from using it for chandeliers, which is a common cosmetic, you can also use it to create timers for various mechanisms.

Using Chain for other items

Truth be told, people rarely use the Chain for climbing. The Rope is much cheaper, and you’ll find a lot of it during your voyages. So, the item is primarily used to assemble other stuff, such as:

  • Various chandeliers
  • Heart Lantern
  • Grappling Hook
  • Various watches
  • Sawmill

Chandeliers

Chandeliers are a furniture class that you commonly start making in the late game when you don’t have anything better to do. They serve as a light source but are most popular as decorative pieces. To assemble one, you’ll need four pieces of the base material, four torches, and a chain.

Heart Lantern

Heart Lantern is a cool item that you make by combining four units of Chain and a Life Crystal. In many ways, it works like chandeliers: you hang it from a ceiling, and it provides light.

One thing that makes Heart Lantern unique is the Heart Lamp buff. This effect provides one health-per-second regeneration to nearby characters. Even better, you can combine the Heart Lantern buff with Campfire’s Cozy Fire buff to double regeneration. This is a good way of countering DoT debuffs.

Due to its cool appearance, Heart Lantern can be used as a decorative piece while providing real combat value.

Grappling Hook

Grappling Hook belongs to the category of items that you place in special equipment slots. By aiming at a wall above, you can grab ahold of its surface and pull yourself upward. It’s a budget solution for climbing out of the holes.

To assemble this tool, you’ll need three Chains and a Hook. Unfortunately, as you progress through the game and gain boots and wings, Grappling Hook quickly becomes redundant.

Watches

Watches are neat items that you can equip in an accessory slot. Once you do so, a small clock appears in the corner of your screen, showing the in-game time. They are rather expensive, requiring ten pieces of an appropriate bar and a Chain.

Aside from the clock function, you can also use them to create timers. These are advanced mechanisms that allow you to turn objects on and off.

Gold Watch and Platinum Watch are the best items in this category. By combining either one of them with Compass and Depth Meter, you can assemble GPS. Later on, you can use this tool to make PDA, which allows you to create the Cell Phone, the most advanced utility accessory in the game.

Sawmill

Lastly, you can combine a Chain with two Steel or Iron Bars and ten pieces of Wood to create Sawmill. This crafting station allows you to assemble a plethora of furniture items, such as pianos, dressers, and bathtubs.

Sawmill is a necessity if you’re looking to build themed homes. You can also use it to make Loom, which is a crafting station for different vanity sets. Although you can make numerous things with Sawmill, you don’t actually need it to complete the game.

12 Best mounts in Terraria https://avidgamer.gg/best-mounts-in-terraria/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=best-mounts-in-terraria Thu, 15 Sep 2022 19:38:38 +0000 https://avidgamer.gg/?p=1709 More...]]> The best mounts in Terraria can make your life much easier. These creatures and objects allow you to travel fast and combat enemies. Like in other games, a player is instantly placed on a mount when you summon it. There are 26 of them, and you can dye them for some extra customization.

The fantastic thing about Terraria is that you can use weapons and tools while riding one of these creatures. In other words, you’ll benefit from the movement speed and can still drill deep into the ground and perform various tasks.

12 Best mounts in Terraria

In this article, we’ve reviewed the top 12 mounts in the game. Aside from their stats, we also considered their acquisition method and how quickly you can get them. The list includes Classic and Master Mode items classified from worst to best.

12. Santank (Toy Tank)

Santank basic stats:

Requires Santa-NK1 drop (only on Master mode)
Height12
Speed41
EffectsAutomatically shoots at opponents
The player takes 1 fall damage
Provides double-jump

Santank is one of the best items you can get during the Frost Moon event. Although it’s a high-tier accessory, it doesn’t provide much in terms of jumping and mobility. Its speed is average, and the double jump isn’t anything special. To make matters worse, it only drops on Master mode.

However, we love the fact it automatically shoots at enemies, providing extra firepower to the player.

11. Bunny (Fuzzy Carrot)

Bunny basic stats:

Requires Angler reward after finishing five quests
Height12
Speed39
EffectsEnhanced jump
The player takes no fall damage
Gradually increases speed when running

The reason why we’ve added this item is how easy it is to obtain. You just need to finish five easy Angler quests, and you’ll get it straight away. In fact, there is a good chance that Bunny will be the first item that you acquire from this category.

It’s really fast for early pre-Harmode. It also helps that you won’t have to worry about fall damage. This would give you some leeway with your accessory choices early on.

10. Bee (Honeyed Goggles)

Bee basic stats:

Requires Queen Bee drop
Height654
Speed10 when walking
31 when flying
EffectsNoticeably slower when walking
Provides limited, fast flight and auto-hover
The player takes no fall damage
Dismounts in liquids

Bee is a creature that allows you to fly around during pre-Hardmode. In fact, it might be the best mount during this phase of the game. However, it’s much slower on land, and dismounts in liquids, which can be quite annoying.

There’s a 5% chance for Honeyed Goggles to drop from Queen Bee. So, grinding the item can be a bit arduous. We suggest that you use it with Cloud in the Bottle so you can fly around for a bit longer.

9. Goat (Goat Skull)

Goat basic stats:

Requires Wall of Flesh drop (only on Master mode)
Height39
Speed61
EffectsFast running speed
Provides double-jump
Running through an opponent causes summon damage (at full speed)
The player takes 80% less fall damage

The main issue with this item is that you can only get it on Master mode. However, it’s fairly common having a 25% chance to drop from Wall of Flesh.

Goat gives you the ability to double-jump at a fairly decent height. It significantly reduces a player’s fall damage while damaging opponents when you run through them. All in all, it’s a decent pickup that you can get fairly early in the game. The mount will definitely make your life easier during a grueling Master playthrough.

8. Basilisk (Ancient Horn)

Basilisk basic stats:

Requires Basilisk
Height28
Speed41
EffectsFast running speed and acceleration
Enhanced jump
Provides double-jump
Running through an opponent causes summon damage
The player takes 80% less fall damage

Ancient Horn drops at a 2% rate, meaning that you’ll have to combat Basilisk 50 times until you get this object. The only saving grace is that the opponent is relatively common.

Basilisk has a nice running speed and acceleration. It allows you to run through enemies, making it easier to get from one part of the map to the other. You gain access to the double jump and the improved jump while riding the creature. Although this isn’t as good as having flight, it helps a lot during early Hardmode.

7. Unicorn (Blessed Apple)

Unicorn basic stats:

Requires Unicorn
Height39
Speed61
EffectsFast running speed
Provides double-jump
Running through an opponent causes summon damage (at full speed)
The player takes 80% less fall damage

Unicorn is a replica of Goat. The only difference between the two is the acquisition method.

To get the mount, you need to kill numerous Unicorns (2.5% drop rate), which inhabit Hallow biome on Hardmode. However, there’s a cool trick that would allow you to get the item much sooner. Basically, you can use Unicorn statue pre-Hardmode to spawn these enemies.

After grinding Unicorns for a bit, you’ll get a fantastic mount that you’ll use late into the Hardmode.

6. Scutlix (Brain Scrambler)

Scutlix basic stats:

Requires Scutlix Gunner
Height40
Speed41
EffectsFast running speed
Automatically shoots at opponents
The player takes 1 fall damage

Scutlix is a mount that you can acquire during the Martian Madness event. It has the same stats as Santank, making it a fantastic choice for players who like to run and gun. Unfortunately, it doesn’t offer much in terms of flying, and there’s a good chance you’ll replace it relatively soon.

5. Witch’s Broom (Witch’s Broom)

Witch’s Broom basic stats:

Requires Mourning Wood (only on Expert mode)
HeightInfinite
Speed46 (horizontal speed)
41 (vertical speed)
62 (diagonal speed)
EffectsInfinite flight
Very small
Can’t descent through specific platforms

Witch’s Broom has a few incredible features. Unlike other mounts, it doesn’t change the size of your character. You remain three tiles high, which is the player’s original size, allowing you to maneuver through tight mine shafts.

It is the first item on this list that provides unlimited flight. This is a fantastic feature that only a few mounts have and something you should prioritize when looking for a transportation method.

4. Tree (Hexxed Branch)

Tree basic stats:

Requires Mourning Wood (only on Master mode)
HeightN/A
Speed81
EffectsExtremely fast running speed
Running through an opponent causes summon damage (at full speed)

Tree has the fastest running speed on land out of all the mounts. You can use this summon to quickly go from one end of the map to the next, making it an excellent choice for large worlds. Even better, you’ll damage all the enemies on your path, so you don’t have to worry about a collision.

Unfortunately, there are a few problems with this summon. First off, it’s only available on Master mode, as a drop from Mourning Wood. The same monster also gives Witch’s Broom, which is a more versatile item. Nevertheless, we decided to put it as 4th best mount as there’s simply nothing faster in the game.

3. UFO (Cosmic Car Key)

UFO basic stats:

Requires Martian Saucer
HeightInfinite
Speed41 (vertical and horizontal speed)
58 (diagonal speed)
EffectsInfinite flight
Dismounts in liquids

UFO is an easy-to-obtain item. It has a 16% chance of dropping from Martian Saucer, which means you should get it after playing the Martian Madness event six times. Given that you’ll likely participate in the event several times before finishing the game, you should get the mount by default.

Like all other top-tier mounts, UFO has unlimited flight. It’s excellent against flying enemies, especially if you’re a melee character. The item can also be useful when building structures or doing various tasks on the map. Its only downside is that it dismounts in water and other liquids.

2. Cute Fishron (Shrimpy Truffle)

Cute Fishron basic stats:

Requires Duke Fishron (only on Expert mode)
HeightInfinite
Speed33 (horizontal speed)
41 (vertical speed)
53 (diagonal speed)
82 (when in liquids)
67 (when below 50% health or six seconds after exiting liquids)
5 (upon making contact with a block)
EffectsInfinite flight
The player causes extra damage while in liquids
Slower movement on land

Cute Fishron is one of the few water-focused mounts increasing your damage while in liquids. However, it also performs really well in the air, giving the player unlimited flight.

The mount has different speeds depending on the situation. It gains a slight boost when exiting the water and when a player is below 50% health. This makes it a valuable accessory during tough boss fights. However, if you hit an obstacle, its speed will drop almost to a minimum.

1. Drill (Drill Containment Unit)

Drill basic stats:

Requires Luminite Bar (40), Shroomite Bar (40), Meteorite Bar (40), Hellstone Bar (40), Spectre Bar (40), and Chlorophyte Bar (40) assembled at Orichalcum or Mythril Anvil
HeightInfinite
Speed31 (horizontal speed)
41 (vertical speed)
51 (diagonal speed)
EffectsInfinite flight Prevents players from using items while mounted
Allows mining of tiles

The tricky thing about the Drill is that it prevents you from using weapons and other items. So, you can’t use it for boss fights. Mounts like Cute Fishron or UFO are much more suitable for these situations.

In many ways, Drill is a utility tool that excels at mining ores and other blocks. It is more efficient than any pickaxe or drill in the game, allowing you to collect enormous amounts of materials in a short time span. To make things even better, it doesn’t dismount and has infinite flight.

Aside from collecting ores, this mount is fantastic for destroying the Corrupt, Crimson, and Hallow biome. Although it’s available late in a playthrough, after defeating Moon Lord, it’s an excellent tool that you can transfer to other characters.
