The player at a Floating Island in Terraria

Floating Islands are elevated land formations that emerge far above the ground, typically consisting of Dirt Blocks and Rain clouds often drizzling upon them. These islands can be located at varying heights above sea level, contingent upon the size of the world you explore.

If you’re curious about finding these floating Islands, we have put together different ways to help you locate them. Allow us to lead you through the various methods for discovering these Islands.

Ways to Find Floating Islands in Terraria

1. Meteor Shot

The Meteor Shot is a Pre-Hardmode bullet you can start acquiring after defeating the Brain of Cthulhu or Eater of Worlds. Sometime during your gameplay, you’ll see a Meteor in the background, falling into your world. Start mining them and turn them into Meteor Bars and craft them into bullets.

With a gun, shoot upward. Meteor Shots can bounce off a solid block once. If something comes back, there’s a Floating Island above you.

2. Water Bolt

If you’re lucky, you might get the Water Bolt in a Pre-Hardmode Dungeon in Terraria. This elusive magic weapon disguises itself as many countless books on a Brass Shelf. Using the Water Bolt will fire a ricocheting water-ball projectile, albeit slowly.

We recommend doing the same method as using Meteor Shots. Shoot upward and wait for the Water Bolt’s projectile to come back. Remember that this method is a little slower.

3. Teleportation Potion

By this point, you probably figured out alternative ways to find a Floating Island. But if it’s not the case and you’re in Hardmode already, the Teleportation Potion will do. You can make one by combining Bottled Water, Chaos Fish, and Fireblossom each at an Alchemy Table or Placed Bottle.

If you use a Teleportation Potion while you’re on a Floating Island, there’s a higher chance you’ll be teleported to another one close by. It’s like the potion prefers to take you to similar places!

Note: Bring Magic or Ice Mirror in case things go south (i.e., getting teleported to the Lihzahrd Temple instead).

4. Spectate Mode

This method is simple – generate a Hardcore character, die, transform into Ghost, and fly to seek an Island.

5. Utilize Height

At times, Floating Islands that spawn at lower altitudes provide other ways to find them. Observe an Island’s waterfalls while in flight, and Dungeons and Living Trees expose Island’s base from their heights.

6. Wide Pillar

If you have a stack of Dirt or Sand, you can build a tall pillar straight up to check for Floating Islands. This method is challenging, as you’ll face Harpies (and worse, Wyverns), so consider equipping a Hook if you don’t have Wings!

7. Utilizing Rocket Boots & Ivy Whip

You can build a tall pillar using blocks. Once built, you can ascend high into the sky by using the Rocket Boots and an Ivy Whip for traversing to find floatings Islands.

8. High Game Resolution

One effective method to increase the chances of finding floating islands is by adjusting the game’s resolution settings, specifically to a higher value like 1920×1080, if your hardware supports it. To change it, just access the game’s settings menu, look for the video tab, and find the resolution tab.

9. Utilizing Wings and Spectre Boots

You have the option to construct a Sky Bridge, which is a lengthy structure elevated in the sky, typically consisting of a single layer of blocks or platforms. Once it’s complete, you can utilize your Wings and Spectre Boots to glide through the sky, significantly boosting your mobility as you jump from this sky bridge.

10. Gravitation Buff

If you have enough Gravitation Potions, you can use them to control your descent direction, making it possible to find and explore floating islands with efficiency. This effect remains active for 3 minutes.

11. Magic Missile

In Pre-Hardmode, utilize the Magic Missile to locate floating islands, adjusting based on the map’s dimensions. The missile produces a distinct sound that ceases upon being cast toward a floating island.

12. Musket Balls

In a small world with floating islands (about 400-600 feet high), using Musket Balls should work if you lower the music volume. Shoot the sky while moving, and listen for impacts and vine-breaking. If unsure, shoot from a similar angle and position. Avoid hitting from low altitudes. It’s a cost-effective strategy for anyone with a gun.

13. Ice Blade and Frostbrand

Projectiles can also help you locate Floating Islands. You just need to swing the Ice Blade and Frostbrand projectiles upward into the sky and pay attention. If projectiles hit a block, you’ll hear a shattering sound, helping you locate hidden islands.

14. Flying Carpet

The Flying Carpet is an item that grants you the ability to float for 5 seconds. To find a Floating Island with this, you just need to go to an elevated location on the map. Employ your flight boots to advance, taking breaks to prevent any upward or downward motion. Then, transition to a Flying Varpet to maintain forward movement while staying at the same altitude.

15. Water Puddles

Mysterious puddles on the ground might mean there’s a Floating Island above you. It happens in places where water acts strangely. These islands create more water than they can hold, so some spills over the edges and form puddles below.

16. Fairies

The Pink Fairy, Green Fairy, and Blue Fairy are creatures that aim to guide you toward valuable treasures. If you see a fairy on the ground, it could fly up to the sky and lead you to an island with a treasure chest. So always keep an eye out for this!

17. Cute Fishron or UFO Mount

An excellent way to find floating islands is by riding a Cute Fishron or UFO Mount. You get these mounts by defeating Duke Fishron in Expert Mode or a Martian Saucer. Then, fly in the sky and look for one Floating Island. Stay at that height while flying around the world to find more islands.

Keep in mind that this could be your final resort for finding these islands, as you’ll still need to face one of the challenging Hardmode Bosses.

The player in a Floating Island in Terraria

Terraria has several unique biomes in the game, waiting for you to explore. From hostile ones like the Crimson and Corruption to the devil-infested Underworld, you’ll never run out of content. How about adding Floating Islands to your go-to list? This guide will talk about everything you should know!

What is a Floating Island?

Floating Islands are structures made of Dirt Blocks and Rain Clouds that float high above the world and can even be found in space. These structures can be vulnerable to certain enemies in Terraria, such as Harpies in Pre-Hardmode, and Wyverns and Arch Wyverns in Hardmode.

A Floating Island consists of a structure made using Sunplate Blocks, Disc Walls, and Glass Walls. Invariably, it’ll hold just a single Skyware Chest and various Skyware furnishings randomly placed. The arrangement will feature three or five background walls placed between each window.

In world creation, they appear randomly in the top sixth of the map and become infected by evil biomes if affected by transformation during Hardmode. However, non-corrupted ones can become a suitable residence for NPCs by adding a light source.

Floating Island Loot and Drops

A Floating Island in Terraria contains a structure consisting of Sunplate Blocks, Disc Walls, and Glass Walls. Within it, there’s a Skyware Chest, various Skyware furniture pieces, and items dropped by Harpies and Wyverns.

Floating Lake

Floating Lakes are bodies of water lacking the Sunplate Block structures and their contents. It’ll only appear when all of the Floating Islands in Terraria have spawned. Therefore, if there’s at least one lake in the world, you can expect 3/5/6 Floating Islands to be present, depending on whether the world is Small/Medium/and Large.

It’s a rare occurrence to find Water Chests within Floating Lakes. It’s also perfect for fishing in Terraria. Occasionally, Floating Lakes may be positioned too close to the ground to be suitable for sky fishing, resulting in surface fishing catches instead. This occurrence is more probable in Large worlds.

These are fishes you can get from Sky Fishing:

 • Damselfish
 • Sky Crates (Pre-Hardmode-exclusive)
 • Azure Crates (Hardmode-exclusive)

These are fishes you can get from Angler’s Quest:

 • Cloudfish
 • Harpyfish
 • Angelfish
 • Wyverntail (Hardmode)

How to Favorite Items in Terraria

The Favorite feature in Terraria is a valuable function in the game that allows you to identify and keep your most prized possessions safe. However, this shortcut can be confusing for beginners or players using different devices. Continue reading this guide to learn how to Favorite items on different devices and their other alternatives!

Favorite Items Explained

Favorite items in Terraria are distinguishable by their blue serrated border surrounding the item’s icon. Once it’s marked, quick selling, trashing, and stacking are blocked, allowing you to have better control over your inventory management. However, you can still manually discard and sell the ones you’ve selected.

Step-by-Step Guide on How to Favorite Items in Terraria

You can use four devices to play Terraria, but not all have this feature. In this guide, we’ll teach you how to activate this perk and other alternatives you can use for Inventory management if unavailable. See the list below to learn more.

How to Build a House in Terraria (Easy) | Full Guide 2023 https://avidgamer.gg/terraria-how-to-build-a-house/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=terraria-how-to-build-a-house Wed, 12 Jul 2023 22:45:31 +0000 https://avidgamer.gg/?p=8362 More...]]>
A built house in Terraria.

Making houses in Terraria involves more than just creating a rectangular structure on the ground. It needs careful planning and attention to detail to create a livable space for your NPCs to meet several requirements. However, you must consider your location, tiles, and materials in making a new home.

To help you get the best gaming experience, we’ll get you started on how to build a house in Terraria. We’ll simplify the process and help you create a place valid for your NPCs. Continue reading this guide to learn more.

WHAT MATERIALS CAN YOU USE TO MAKE A HOUSE?

In Terraria, Houses are vital for NPCs as their spawning points where they each get to have one. You can construct homes using Wood, Stone, and other material you can find to create walls and furniture. However, to prevent enemies from spawning within your home, you must avoid using Unsafe Walls, such as those made from Dirt and walls converted by the Biome spread.

HOUSE FRAME AND INTERNAL AREA

A House Frame is made up of solid tiles that completely enclose the home’s interior using non-actuated solid blocks or platforms and its doors. On the other hand, the Internal Area is composed of connected tiles in each direction.

While constructing your home’s frame and internal area, make sure that there are no holes in your walls, as this can allow enemies to get in. Lastly, to make your house in Terraria gets validated, it must have at least 60 tiles but less than 750 in total.

FURNITURE

After building the Frame and Internal Area, it’s time to add Furniture to spruce up the place and make it a livable space for NPCs. Each house requires at least one valid Entry, Comfort, Flat surface item, and Light Source. See the table below for the types of furniture in Terraria:

PROPERTY REQUIREMENTS TO CONSIDER

Evil Score

Before building a house, remember not to place it inside or near an evil biome because it’ll increase your Evil score and render it invalid. This is because NPCs in Terraria can’t live in Corrupted or Crimsoned Areas.

To calculate the Evil Score, you must add up your Corruption and Crimson Tile Score, then subtract them from the Hallowed Tile and Sunflower scores. After that, if you get -50 points, your house will be Valid for Housing. However, if you get +50 points, it’s considered Invalid and a status message will pop up that it’s Corrupted. Lastly, if you get 300 points, your house is Not Valid for Housing.

Check out the table below for the tiles within the area and their effect on the Evil score:

Tiles

Home Tile Score

For a house to be valid in Terraria, there must be at least one Home Tile where the NPC can stand. Moreover, this rectangular area is neither a Platform nor a bubble, allowing characters to pass freely.

There are two parts to calculating your Home Tile Score; for the first one, you’re going to subtract -5 points per tile occupied by objects, subtract -20 points for each tile occupied by a closed Tall gate or door, and subtract -20 points for each tile occupied by an Open Tall Gate and hinge of an Open Door. Then, add +5 points for each unactuated tile.

You can proceed to the second calculation if you score over 0. If you get a score below 0, the tile will be invalid, and you can’t move on to the next part of the Home Tile Score computation.

For the second part of the calculation, subtract -15 points for each solid tile around the valid Home Tile. You’ll also deduct -30 points per regular chest, including Locked Chests, except for Trap Chests per tile that it occupies within the surrounding area of a valid home tile. Lastly, if you assign a second NPC to an occupied house, their distance must be less than three tiles away from the home tile of the existing NPC to get a score of 1.

Here are some tiles not Included in the Home Tile Score computation:

 • Herbs at any growing stage
 • Mushroom
 • Regular grass and Tall grass plants
 • Torches
 • Opened Trap Doors

Finally, if you receive a score of 0 or lower, your Home Tile is Invalid, while a score of 0 or higher means it’s valid.

STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE ON HOW TO BUILD A HOUSE IN TERRARIA

Here’s an easy step-by-step guide on how to make a simple house in Terraria using Wood. Read further to learn how to do it yourself, and we’ll add a variety of small house dimensions you can try!

Step 1: Gather Materials

The player chopping Trees.

The first step is to gather all the materials you’ll need for the following steps. For this guide, we’re using Wood, a beginner-friendly material. However, you can experiment with other materials as the game progresses.

Step 2: Craft House Walls

The player crafting a Wood Wall.

The second step is to craft your House walls in Terraria using a workbench. Since we’re using Wood, we’ll make enough Wood Walls for the next step.

Step 3: Create an Internal Area

The player laying out the Wood Wall.

The third step is to create the internal area by placing your newly made house walls on flat ground away from Corrupted or Crimsoned areas. Next, we’ll set the Wood walls based on our preferred dimensions, as shown in the picture.

Step 4: Create a Frame

The player building a rectangular house.

The fourth step is to create the house’s frame by simply using Wood and using it to encase the Internal area we made earlier. Thus, use it to construct the home’s ceiling, floor, and walls.

Step 5: Craft and Add Furniture

The player completing the house.

The fifth step is to craft one Light source, Entry, Comfort, and Flat surface item at the workbench. Then, add all the newly made furniture inside the house to furnish it and wait for it to be valid housing for a Terraria NPC.

Small House Dimensions

Rectangular houses must have at least one of the following dimensions to meet the minimum size requirement of 60 tiles while not exceeding 750 tiles.

With Ceiling, Floor, and Walls (tiles width x tiles height)Without Ceiling, floor, and walls(tiles width x tiles height)
5 x 12 3 x 10

9 x 7 7 x 5
10 x 6 8 x 4
12 x 5 10 x 3
15 x 4 15 x 2

NPC HOUSING

After seeing the ‘This is valid housing’ status message, you can finally assign a house for an NPC or wait for one to move in. Here’s a list of NPCs that need and don’t need housing in Terraria:

Need Housing:

 • Guide
 • Angler
 • Goblin Tinkerer
 • Tavernkeep
 • Mechanic
 • Stylist
 • Wizard
 • Tax Collector
 • Golfer
 • Truffle

Note: Truffle NPC requires that its house must have at least 100 tiles of Glowing Mushroom biome blocks surrounding its home.

Don’t Need Housing:

 • Old Man
 • Traveling Merchant
 • Skeleton Merchant

The player using the Mechanical Worm in Terraria.

Defeating Bosses in Terraria is required once you spawn into the world. Its essence lies in the natural gameplay progression, bridging the Pre-Hardmode to Hardmode. Ultimately, new weapons and mounts become available, although it comes at a cost.

Going back to the Corruption biome is the pesky Eater of Worlds. In Hardmode, you’ll have to deal with its mechanical counterpart, the Destroyer. This journey of unlocking new content becomes more manageable with the Mechanical Worm, and we’ll tell you why in this easy guide.

What is a Mechanical Worm

The Mechanical Worm is an item used for summoning the Destroyer in Hardmode, although it still works when brought to a Pre-Hardmode world.

The Mechanical Worm works outside of the Corruption, unlike the Worm Food. However, you can only use the former at nighttime, while the latter can be used anytime. When used by day, the boss won’t appear nor consume the Mechanical Worm. Using it when the Destroyer is already summoned doesn’t do anything.

How to Craft a Mechanical Worm

In Hardmode, if the Destroyer is undefeated, the chances of enemies dropping this item are 0.04%, excluding statue-spawned enemies, Meteor Heads, and Old One’s Army enemies.

Alternatively, combine the following items at a Mythril Anvil or Orichalcum:

tModloader for STEAM

Installing tModLoader on Steam is the easiest of all. All you need is to own the game and have it installed in your library.

To install tModLoader, search for the game at the Steam Store. Once installed, tModLoader will automatically be added to your library. Installing and running the modded version without buying Terraria won’t work. However, it’s possible to run the latter without tModLoader.

tModLoader Steam

If you want a previous Version of tModLoader or Terraria (v1.3.5.3) follow these steps:

 • Once tModLoader is installed, you need to find it in your library, RIGHT-CLICK on “tModLoader”, and select “Properties”.
Intallation process Step 2
 • Under “Properties”, select “Betas” and choose “1.3-legacy”. By doing so, Terraria 1.3.5.3 files will be downloaded alongside previous mods. If you wish to return everything to normal, revert all changes made. Don’t worry, as your vanilla Terraria will be untouched.
Intallation process Step 3

You now have access to Terraria v1.3.5.3! You can play its vanilla version or install mods to that previous version of Terraria. As easy as that. You can also check for some mods to install HERE.

GOG

This installation is necessary if you have a copy of Terraria from GoG. Follow these steps to begin:

 • First, you need to identify the version of Terraria you’re playing and match it to tModLoader. You can check your Terraria version here:
20230429193622 1
 • Usually, the latest release is enough, and you can find it in the Official GitHub releases. But if you need the newest version of tMod for Terraria v1.3, that’s tMod v.0.11.8.9, find your Operating system and click to start the download.
tModLoader Installation 1.4
Instalation GOG 1.3.X
 • After it’s downloaded you need to unzip it to a folder named tmodloader inside the Terraria folder.
tModLoader Installation 1.4 1
 • Finally, for 1.4.X, open “start-tModLoader.bat“, and you’ll be set. All you’ll need is to install mods to the game and have fun.
Installation common users 1.3 4
 • Terraria 1.3 on GoG… There is no known way to downgrade Terraria to any 1.3 version, with GoG Galaxy you can downgrade Terraria up to the last 5 known versions, for example: if the latest version is 1.4.4.9 you can downgrade up to 1.4.4.4 (But if you somehow manage to downgrade Terraria from GoG to any version of 1.3 then we recommend following the steps below to install tModLoader).

 • Terraria 1.3 on GoG… There is no known way to downgrade Terraria to any 1.3 version, with GoG Galaxy you can downgrade Terraria up to the last 5 known versions. If you manage to downgrade Terraria from GoG to any version of 1.3 then we recommend following the steps below to install tModLoader.

INSTALLATION FOR EVERYONE ELSE

Now, here’s where things get complicated. As there are 180+ versions of tModLoader, you need to find the tMod version that fits perfectly with your Terraria version. There’s no guide for knowing the best version of tMod for Terraria, so we’ll always recommend using both latest versions. That way, you’ll avoid confusion and encounter fewer bugs and mods incompatibilities.

We know some good mods are not updated and supported for Terraria 1.4+, so you may want an older version. In that case, we recommend using the latest version of tModLoader for Terraria v1.3.5.3 since most previous mods are compatible with this version. We recommend using this version if you still want a little older version or can’t get the latest version to work.

The installation process of tMod for Terraria 1.4 is the same as the GoG installation but for Terraria 1.3 is different.

Installation for 1.3:

 • The first thing you need to do is make a backup of all your worlds and characters (just in case), usually located in Documents>My Games>Terraria:
Installation backup
 • Open your Terraria folder and change the name of your “Terraria.exe” for anything you want, for example, “TerrariaVanilla.exe” since unzipping tMod inside this folder will add a new “Terraria.exe”.
Installation common user 2
 • Download the version of tModLoader you need to use and extract it directly into the Terraria folder. It should look something like this:
Installation common users 1.3
 • Finally, you have to open the tModLoaderInstaller.jar, and you’re done. If you get an error the first time, close it and open it again.
Installation common users 1.3 2

Terraria.exe is now the Terraria with mods (tModLoader), and the other Terraria (in this case, TerrariaVanilla.exe) is the actual vanilla Terraria without mods. All you have to do now is install the mods, and you’re done.

MODS

Ranger Overview

Ranger is a class that’s one of the safest options in terms of battling the world of Terraria. You can undoubtedly damage your opponents with weapons that attack from a distance. But that also means you’re not as tanky as a Melee character. So the best defense is a good offense, and what better way to support that idea is to use the best gear!

Pre-Hardmode Ranged Weapons

The start of your journey means that you start with basic items. But that doesn’t mean that you’ll settle for meager damage! These are a few of the best weapons to look out for before facing powerful opponents.

Pre-Hardmode Weapons
Pre-Hardmode Bows and Guns

Pre-Hardmode Bows

The basics of all ranged weapons, bows are your best friend in the early game. These items are a good start to your arsenal as they’re relatively easy to craft. These are the best of the best with the materials you can access!

Platinum Bow

The Platinum Bow is the most powerful of its basic ore counterparts. Only available if your world spawns with Platinum ores, consider yourself lucky if that is the case! You will be rewarded if you take the time to mine the resources required. Needing only Platinum bars to craft, this is a worthy investment to make for overall utility.

Tendon Bow

A nice upgrade to your arsenal is the Tendon Bow. Craftable with only eight Crimtane bars, this is a great addition to your armory. With higher base damage than its Demonite counterpart, choosing to wield this when you have a Crimson world is a must.

Molten Fury

The Underworld has its fair share of enemies to beat, so crafting a weapon to match that aggression is needed. Mining Hellstone can grant you the ability to craft the Molten Bow. This item allows you to make your wooden arrows into flaming arrows. Wielding this is sure to give you a fighting chance against any foe.

The Bee’s Knees

The jungle is a dangerous place, and it also has its rewards! Journeying down to defeat the Queen Bee can grant you a .33% chance to drop The Bee’s Knees. This bow allows you to shoot a string of bees onto your enemy. Once the bees make contact, they will pierce once and spread to other nearby enemies. This weapon is a great tool against multiple mobs or a feisty boss!

Hellwing Bow

Last but not least, the Hellwing Bow is the most powerful bow in Pre-Hardmode. This weapon shoots flaming bats with wooden arrows. The neat part about this item is that it can pierce infinitely, which means it can go through every enemy in sight. And as a bonus, this bow is also an autofire weapon. The downside to its strength is that it has a small spread when you shoot it.

Pre-Hardmode Guns

If bows are not to your taste, then a good firearm is the way to go! Guns are an alternative that provides a bit more damage in the early game with the downside of being more difficult to obtain. But once you lay your hands on one, you can decimate any opponent! These are the best that Pre-Hardmode has to offer.

Musket

Obtainable when you destroy a Shadow Orb, there is a chance that the Musket will drop! This gun is the best to start with, as this weapon has one of the higher base damages in Pre-Hardmode! With the option to auto-fire, this item is a breeze to shoot.

Minishark

Do you have 35 gold to spare? Well, what better way to spend it than buying the Minishark! Purchasable through the Arms Dealer, This is a minigun that can shred opponents in moments! With an astonishingly high fire rate, this gun is a must-pick for boss fights. Although it only has low base damage, it makes up for its bullets per minute!

Boomstick

You’re bound to run into some chests as you clear through the jungle. But if you’re lucky, you might come across the Boomstick! This weapon is a typical shotgun that provides great burst damage. Firing this item grants you three to four bullets per one ammo. This gun is perfect for boss fights that have large enemies to hit!

Phoenix Blaster

Once you have reached the Underworld, you may need to mine some Hellstone. But what should you use it for? Well, if you have a Handgun lying around, you can craft the Phoenix Blaster! This weapon is craftable with the Handgun and 10 Hellstone bars. One of the best weapons to face the Wall of Flesh, it’s a smart investment to craft this gun!

Hardmode Ranged Weapons

You’ve now unlocked Hardmode! And that means stronger opponents and stronger weapons! This mode is a challenge for players as most of the items listed need decent farming. But that’s a worthy investment as this will be the key to defeating later bosses. Wielding these weapons is a sign of power and dedication, so gear up and take on the world!

Hardmode Repeaters and Bows

hardmode shotbows and bows
Hardmode Shotbows and Bows

Repeaters are Hardmode weapons that shoot arrows in an auto-fire style, unlike bows. These are usually made through ores you can mine, and it can affect the damage it outputs. Several of these Repeaters are the same with damage differences, but the best have tricks up their sleeve.

Titanium Repeater

The Titanium Repeater is the strongest of all of the Hardmode ore Repeaters. This item has the highest base damage out of its ore counterparts. This weapon is the best Repeater you can get without defeating a mechanical boss. Farming for this item will bring you awesome firepower for your upcoming battles!

Hallowed Repeater

A weapon that is craftable after defeating one of the mechanical bosses, this is one of the better Repeaters in the game. This item is the strongest in terms of stats compared to its counterparts. Wielding this weapon is a sign of progress, as it can carry you through the early parts of Hardmode.

Chlorophyte Shotbow

As an alternative to the previous item, the Chlorophyte Shotbow is a certain pick. This item trades some stats for a unique mechanic. This Repeater will shoot multiple arrows on a cone, costing only one ammunition! This weapon is effective on many enemies or bosses like The Destroyer. Be sure to consider this item when choosing a Repeater!

Repeaters are nice, but an old fashion Bow can do the job too! Compared to its Pre-Hardmode counterparts, each bow has quirks that distinguish it from the others. This guide will show you the best of all the available Bows in Hardmode!

Daedalus Stormbow

One of Terraria’s staple Hardmode Bows, the Daedalus Stormbow is a force to be reckoned with! Obtainable through Hallowed Mimics, this isn’t an item that you can be obtain easily. This item has a unique mechanic that allows you to rain down arrows from the sky. The neat part of this weapon is that it only costs one arrow for every three fired, with a 33% chance of spawning an extra arrow. This Bow is one of the weapons that are effective throughout your Hardmode journey.

Pulse Bow

After defeating Plantera, you have the option to buy the Pulse Bow for 45 Gold

Through the Travelling Merchant. The weapon converts the arrows it shoots into pulse beams while retaining all effects from arrows of your choice. This Bow is one of the better Bows in the game as it can pierce up to six targets. This item’s mechanic is that it can bounce from surfaces, making it effective in tight spaces.

Tsunami

A random drop from Duke Fishron can score you the Tsunami! This item is a great addition as it has one of the better mechanics for a Bow. This weapon auto-fires five grouped arrows for each shot, costing only one arrow in your inventory! Unlike the Chlorophyte Shotbow, this Bow will not spread its arrows and will keep parallel to each other until it hits a target.

Aerial Bane

Challenging the Old One’s Army is difficult, but the drops are worth the effort of fighting! One of the drops you may get when defeating Betsy is the Aerial Bane. This Bow is unique as it shoots six arrows like an aerial missile strike. Once it contacts an enemy, it will split into five additional arrows in a 90-degree spread. Each initial arrow that hits will have this effect, but it won’t repeat the mechanic after the arrow spreads. In addition to this powerful weapon’s stats, it will damage airborne enemies by an additional 50%.

Phantasm

The endgame calls for powerful weapons, and the Phantasm answers this call! The final craftable Bow in the game, this item does not disappoint. Like the Chlorophyte Shotbow, it auto-fires four arrows grouped loosely in varying velocities. This bow is powerful because it has a 66% chance of not consuming any ammunition. In addition, auto-firing this weapon will gradually increase the fire rate. One of the mechanics of this item is that it’ll spawn three magical arrows with every arrow that hits. These magical arrows will home onto the target hit, dealing 30% of the original arrow’s damage.

Hardmode Guns

Hardmode guns
Hardmode Guns

Now that the arrow-based weapons are discussed let’s put the bullet-spewing guns in the spotlight! An effective alternative to Bows and Repeaters, these weapons don’t shy of dealing damage to their targets. Expect to eradicate your foes with the best that Hardmode can offer!

Onyx Blaster

With the power of Dark Shards and Souls of Night, the Onyx Blaster is the apex of early Hardmode weapons. Capable of carrying you through multiple bosses before being overshadowed by better items, this shotgun’s the real deal! Able to shoot four pellets of ammunition with a single bullet is great, but that isn’t why this weapon’s a beast. The core mechanic of this weapon is that it shoots a black bolt of dark energy. This projectile deals explosive damage upon contact, which means huge damage. The best part of this item is that you can craft it without defeating any mechanical bosses!

Megashark

Do you have your Minishark lying around? Then it’s high time to upgrade! The Megashark is the big brother of its Pre-Hardmode counterpart. With better stats and a great fire rate, it’s sure to shred health bars! With just a few items to craft this weapon, it’s a no-brainer to pick this. It’s also an effective gun to wield for a good chunk of Hardmode!

Uzi

A high-velocity monster, the Uzi is one of the better weapons Hardmode offers! A great item to decimate your foes, this is a great alternative to the Megashark in terms of utility. However, the downside to this weapon is the rarity of its drop. Only obtainable through Angry Trappers with a 1% chance, you may need to farm it for quite a while. But if you manage to obtain one, you won’t be disappointed!

Sniper Rifle

With the highest base damage of all weapons in Terraria, it wouldn’t be a mistake to wield the Sniper Rifle! Obtainable through Skeleton Snipers in the Dungeon, farming this item is required. This weapon may not have auto-fire, but it makes up for its high-velocity and high-damage bullets. This item also can zoom, similar to the Binoculars and Rifle Scope. Adding this to your arsenal to defeat bosses is a must!

Vortex Beater

The apex of craftable guns, the Vortex Beater powers through enemies in a heartbeat! A post- Lunatic Cultist gun, This is one of the best weapons to face the Moon Lord. Craftable with Vortex Fragments from the Vortex Pillar, it’s not an easy task to create this item. It wouldn’t be one of the best if not for its features! Apart from its great base damage, the rifle has a 66.67% chance of not consuming ammunition. Another major ability this gun has is it shoots explosive rockets every half second. Partnered with ammunition of your choice, expect to shred health bars!

S.M.D.G.

The endgame of Terraria guns, The S.M.D.G., is the height of your journey as a ranged character! Dropped by the Moon Lord with an 11.11% chance, you may need to defeat the boss multiple times to achieve this weapon. Managing to obtain this item is no short of being awesome! Considered an upgrade from the Megashark, this gun has a trick up its sleeve. With a 50% chance of not consuming ammunition, raining bullets is easier than ever! Shredding enemies is considerably faster as it has greater damage than its rifle counterparts. Truly one of the best guns to grace the game!

Conclusion

Terraria has a wide variety of weapons for any playstyle you want to pursue. These weapons are the best in what they do and for whatever you want to achieve. Always remember that any item you use depends on how you use it and the tactics you apply when fighting. No matter how strong your weapon is, it will lead to your downfall without proper strategies. But it won’t hurt to want the best of the best for your playthrough!

Now that you know what to look for, jump in and explore the world! These items won’t find themselves!

How to Defeat Brain of Cthulhu: Terraria Boss Guide (2022) https://avidgamer.gg/brain-of-cthulhu-guide-2022/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=brain-of-cthulhu-guide-2022 Wed, 23 Nov 2022 12:16:11 +0000 https://avidgamer.gg/?p=1371 More...]]>

The Brain of Cthulhu is a Pre-Hardmode boss next to the Eye of Cthulhu in progression. A formidable opponent for new players and a crucial one for veterans. This boss is a vital enemy as it’ll provide equipment for defeating later bosses. Preparation for this enemy is necessary as it’ll be a brutal fight.

Ready to take on the Crimson terror? Will you stand a chance in defeating it? This guide will help you with that!

As a disclaimer, this isn’t the definitive strategy to defeat this boss. You may do it however you wish, but this guide will show you one of the effective ways to defeat this creature.

Brain of Cthulhu – Overview

The Brain of Cthulhu is a large, flying brain of the Crimson. This beast is an essential boss as it’s necessary to defeat to summon later bosses in Terraria. It’d be best to beat the Eye of Cthulhu as it’ll drop equipment to help fight the Brain.

The following are its stats:

Classic Expert Master
Max Health 1000 (3000 with Creepers) 1700(5100 with Creepers) 2167(6487 with Creepers)
Damage 30 54 81
Defense 14 14 14
Knockback Resistance 50% 55% 60%
Immunity Confused Confused Confused

The Brain has two phases to expect—a first phase, where it’s invulnerable and spawns Creeper minions. And a second phase where it’ll be vulnerable to damage and knockback.

How to Summon

crimson heart
Crimson Hearts

You must find three Crimson Hearts in the Crimson biome to summon it. It’s recommended that you bring explosives to clear out Crimson blocks. You can destroy the heart with any hammer, so don’t forget to bring one. Once destroyed, it will send different messages depending on how many you’ve destroyed. However, you’ll summon the Brain if the third heart is destroyed.

After you’ve defeated the boss, you can summon it with a Bloody Spine. This item can be crafted with Vertebrae and Vicious Powder with a Demon or Crimson Altar. To summon it, you’ll need to stand in a Crimson biome, or it won’t spawn.

How to Defeat

player fighting brain of cthulhu
Brain of Cthulhu Fight

The boss has two phases to fight through. In the first phase, the enemy is invulnerable to damage and will teleport around the area. It’ll spawn Creeper minions that’ll float around the middle of the player and the Brain. These minions will not teleport like the boss, but they’ll form in groups making it easier to damage them.

After defeating the minions, the Brain will initiate its second phase. In this phase, the enemy will be vulnerable to damage and knockback. It’ll ram at the player aggressively and will teleport around the area.

For preparation, it’s best to stock up on grenades for the first phase of the fight. The Creeper’s tendency to group up is key to defeating them. Do be careful, as it’ll deal splash damage to the player if detonated close enough.

As for the second stage of the fight, it’s recommended to use ranged weapons with Silver or Tungsten bullets. The Boomstick and The Undertaker are viable picks as they’re relatively easy to acquire in the early game.

In the first phase of the fight, grenades are a vital tool for damage. Wait for the minions to group up and throw your grenade at them to maximize the splash damage. Once all minions are dead, the second phase will commence.

In the second phase, it’s time to use your ranged weapons to damage the enemy at a distance. Be sure to dodge its attacks, as it’ll randomly teleport while it tries to ram you. The optimal way to attack this foe is to wait for it to ram you. As it rams you, this is the time to strike, as the movement of this boss is predictable. If you follow these steps correctly, you can damage and defeat the boss in no time.

Other Preparations

player in arena
Arena for Brain of Chtulhu

For Armor, it’s recommended that you opt for defense. As the Brain and the minions are relatively quick, Armor that can tank damage is a must-have. It’s best you craft Gold or Platinum armor as its stats will make the fight easier. If you don’t have access to these pieces of equipment by the time you decide to fight, Silver or Tungsten armor will suffice.

For accessories, any item that can increase movement is excellent to include. The Tsunami in a Bottle is a great example as it’ll allow you to double jump. Alternatively, you can use Sandstorm in a Bottle with the same effect (with minor differences).

Once you’re set with your equipment, time to prep your arena. It’s recommended that you set up an arena inside a cave in the Crimson biome near the last heart. The arena must be pretty significant to move around. If the heart is nowhere near an open space, you should clear out the area and make an arena near it.

A few notes to take on building your arena are that you must place platforms that are jumping distance from each other. It’s also required to close off entry points to avoid mobs entering while engaged in a fight. It’d be best also to place Campfires to increase your HP regeneration.

Post-Completion

You have done it! You have defeated the Brain of Cthulhu! So what’s next? Defeating the boss will grant you a treasure bag filled with essential items to help you in your journey.

The following items are:

ItemDrop Rate
Lesser Healing Potion (5 – 15)100%
Brain of Cthulhu Trophy10%

Defeating the Brain will unlock the Meteorite event, a crucial part of Terraria for defeating the next boss. Meteorite is an essential ore that can craft bars to create equipment that can compete with later bosses. So keep this in mind once you have defeated this boss.

Conclusion

This Pre-Hardmode boss is a crucial enemy as it’ll unlock equipment to defeat the Wall of Flesh. Preparation is the key to successfully defeating this foe. If you follow this guide’s strategy, it’s a guarantee that you can conquer it solo in a few minutes.

Now that you have a game plan for the Brain, time to prepare and work towards this goal! Gear up and face this boss with courage and bravery!
