All Wings in Terraria, Ranked (Full List 2022)

Matt

In this Ultimate Terraria wings tier list, we'll go through all the wings in the game, focusing on their strength and availability.

Wings are one of the more important, if not the most important, accessories in Terraria. They make the game so much easier by allowing the player to climb out of holes, dodge magma, go against flying enemies, etc.

Like most other items in the game, you progressively get better wings as the game goes on. Almost all of them become available in the Hardmode and, until then, you have to make do with what you got.

Fledgling Wings are an excellent example of early-game wings. You can get them from Floating Island chests, pre-Hardmode. Like other items from the category, you can use the accessory by simply holding the jump button. They allow you to float and reach high platforms.

Analyzing individual wings

Here’s the Terraria wings tier list, going from the best to the worst. Aside from wings’ power, we also put a lot of emphasis on availability. For example, if two sets of wings appear at different times in the game, we will upgrade the ones that are available earlier.

S-Tier

·       Celestial Starboard

Basic Stats:

Flight Time 3 seconds
Flight Height 201 tiles
Horizontal Speed 41 mph
Vertical Multiplier 450%
RarityRainbow

Celestial Starboard is the best flying transportation in the game. You get it at the end of the game, after defeating Moon Lord in the Expert Mode (100% drop chance). The accessory can achieve the best speed and height while being easy to control.

Among other features, the item allows you to hover around horizontally. When you press the UP button, you can accelerate rather quickly while continuing a vertical climb. This makes them much easier to use than its counterpart. Then again, you will get used to all wings in the game by now.

·       Stardust Wings and Solar Wings

Basic Stats:

Flight Time 3 seconds
Flight Height 167 tiles
Horizontal Speed 46 mph
Vertical Multiplier 300%
RarityRed

After Celestial Starboard, Stardust Wings and Solar Wings are the best items from this class in the game. Both of these wings can remain air bound for the same period of time as Celestial Wings, although they’re not as fast and cannot reach the same height.

There’s just a small difference between these three sets of wings, which is why we can easily place them all in the same tier. To make them, you’ll need Stardust Fragments/Solar Fragments and Luminite Bars. You can get fragments from Stardust Pillar/Solar Pillar and bars from Moon Lord.

·       Fledgling Wings

Basic Stats:

Flight Time 0.42 seconds
Flight Height 18 tiles
Horizontal Speed 15 mph
Vertical Multiplier 150%
RarityWhite

Although Fledgling Wings are the worst Wings in the game, based on stats, I decided to add them to the list because of how quickly you can get them. They are the only wing item available pre-Hardmode, and if you get them quickly, there’s a good chance you’ll keep them far into the Hardmode.

Furthermore, you get them for free when you start Journey Mode. This means you’ll use them much longer than any other wings in the game (except perhaps Celestial Starboard).

·       Fishron Wings

Basic Stats:

Flight Time 3 seconds
Flight Height 143 tiles
Horizontal Speed 41 mph
Vertical Multiplier 250%
RarityYellow

Fishron Wings should be way higher than Vortex Booster and Nebula just because you can get them much faster, and they basically have the same stats.

The item drops from Duke Fishron, which you can summon with Truffle Worm. The only problem with this is that the wings rarely drop and that Truffle Worm is a rare sighting. This means you will have to grind a bit before you can get the accessory.

The cool thing about Fishron Wings is that they remove the swimming penalty.

A-Tier

·       Betsy’s Wings

Basic Stats:

Flight Time 2.5 seconds
Flight Height 119 tiles
Horizontal Speed 36 mph
Vertical Multiplier 250%
RarityYellow

Although Betsy’s Wings are far from the best wings in Terraria, they’re available relatively quickly. You get them from the dragon Betsy that appears during Old One’s Army event. So, if your character is strong enough, you can acquire this item rather fast, making several tiers of wings obsolete.

·       Empress Wings

Basic Stats:

Flight Time 2.5 seconds
Flight Height 128 tiles
Horizontal Speed 41 mph
Vertical Multiplier 275%
RarityCyan

Empress Wings have a few neat features. They’re slightly weaker than the top-tier wings but are available much sooner in Hardmode, between Plantera and Golem fights.

The accessory drops from Empress of Light, an optional boss available post-Plantera. Unfortunately, attacking the boss as soon as she’s available is a tall task as she’s overpowered early on. To make matters worse, the drop rate for the item is relatively low at 10%.

Although the wings are a bit harder to acquire, they can serve as a great tool for Golem and post-Golem fights. If you’re confident in your build, try to grind them.

·       Tattered Fairy Wings, Spooky Wings, Festive Wings

Basic Stats:

Flight Time 3 seconds
Flight Height 107 tiles
Horizontal Speed 38 mph
Vertical Multiplier 180%
RarityLime

Tattered Fairy Wings, Spooky Wings, and Festive Wings are accessories you get from various seasonal events.

Once you get Soul of Flight and Black Fairy Dust from Pumpking, a mini-boss during the Pumpkin Moon event, you can assemble Tattered Fairy Wings. Overall, this is a really solid accessory but is relatively hard to get because of Black Fairy Dust’s low drop rate.

Spooky Wings are the same as Tattered Fairy Wings and Festive Wings in terms of stats. They also have similar ingredients, but instead of Black Fairy Dust, you need Spooky Twig. The material drops from Mourning Wood, another mini boss, during the Pumpkin Moon event.

Lastly, you can get Festive Wings after fighting Everscream, the Frost Moon event’s mini-boss.

·       Hoverboard

Basic Stats:

Flight Time 2.83 seconds
Flight Height 94 tiles
Horizontal Speed 33 mph
Vertical Multiplier 166%
RarityPink

Hoverboard is relatively weak compared to other wings in this category. However, as it’s easy to assemble, we placed it in A-Tier. You can make it with Soul of Flight and 18 Shroomite Bars.

The great thing about Shroomite Bars is that you can make them with Chlorophyte Bars and Glowing Mushrooms, both of which are relatively common at that point in the game. The only trick ingredient is a crafting station called Autohammer, which is available after defeating Plantera.

B-Tier

·       Vortex Booster and Nebula Mantle

Basic Stats:

Flight Time 3 seconds
Flight Height 143 tiles
Horizontal Speed 33 mph
Vertical Multiplier 245%
RarityRed

The problem we have with Vortex Booster and Nebula Mantle is that they require similar ingredients as Stardust Wings and Solar Wings but have worse performance. Instead of Solar or Stardust Fragments, you’ll need Vortex Fragments/Nebula Fragments which are also collected from the Celestial Pillars.

Unfortunately, as you’ll probably make Solar Wings or Stardust Wings, there’s no need for a Vortex Booster and Nebula Mantle. You would just be wasting precious ingredients. It’s noteworthy that these accessories have better hovering functionality than Solar Wings and Stardust Wings, but this is not enough to warrant assembly.

·       Steampunk Wings

Basic Stats:

Flight Time 3 seconds
Flight Height 107 tiles
Horizontal Speed 38 mph
Vertical Multiplier 180%
RarityYellow

Steampunk Wings are a higher-tier accessory available after the Golem fight. Unfortunately, by the time they are available, you’ll probably have some better options at your disposal. Furthermore, they’re relatively expensive.

·       Spectre Wings and Mothron Wings

Basic Stats:

Flight Time 2.83 seconds
Flight Height 94 tiles
Horizontal Speed 38 mph
Vertical Multiplier 166%
RarityYellow

You make Spectre Wings by combining Spectre Bar and Soul of Flight. The item is available post-Plantera and has great stats.

Mothron Wings is another set of wings available after Plantera. In terms of stats, it belongs in the same tier as Spectre Wings, Beetle Wings, Bone Wings, and Hoverboard. It’s a rare drop from Mothron, an enemy that appears during the Eclipse event.

·       Bone Wings

Basic Stats:

Flight Time 2.83 seconds
Flight Height 94 tiles
Horizontal Speed 38 mph
Vertical Multiplier 166%
RarityPink

To make Bone Wings, you’ll need Bone Feather and Soul of Flight. Bone Feather is relatively easy to get by grinding different Armored Bones in the Dungeon. Because of that, we were hesitant to put the item in the same tier as Spectre Wings and Mothron Wings, just because they are much easier to get.

C-Tier

·       Beetle Wings

Basic Stats:

Flight Time 2.83 seconds
Flight Height 94 tiles
Horizontal Speed 38 mph
Vertical Multiplier 166%
RarityLime

My issue with Beetle Wings is the same as with some of the B-Tier wings: you get them too late. The accessory is available after the Golem fight, but at that point, you already have access to Steampunk Wings that have better stats.

Even if we disregard Steampunk Wings, you’ll have access to Spectre Wings, Mothron Wings, Bone Wings, or Hoverboard before Beetle Wings,

·       Flame Wings, Butterfly Wings, Bee Wings, and Bat Wings

Basic Stats:

Flight Time 2.67 seconds
Flight Height 81 tiles
Horizontal Speed 38 mph
Vertical Multiplier 150%
RarityPink

We decided to group all these wings together. They are mid-tier winds, and all of them use Soul of Flight as the primary component. Their secondary components are different but are relatively the same in terms of availability. In other words, you have equally the same chance of getting any of these wings.

·       Various developers’ wings

Basic Stats:

Flight Time 2.5 seconds
Flight Height 77 tiles
Horizontal Speed 36 mph
Vertical Multiplier 150%
RarityCyan

As a way of paying homage to their staff, Re-Logic introduced numerous wings bearing developers’ nicknames. You can get these items from various Treasure Bags on Hardmode. In terms of stats, these accessories can be categorized as mid-tier or lower mid-tier.

Here’s the list of all developer wings in the game:

  • Red’s Wings
  • D-Town’s Wings
  • Will’s Wings
  • Crowno’s Wings
  • Cenx’s Wings
  • Lazure’s Barrier Platform
  • Jim’s Wings
  • Skiphs’ Paws
  • Loki’s Wings
  • Arkhalis’ Lightwings
  • Leinfors’ Prehensile Cloak
  • Ghostar’s Infinity Eight
  • Safeman’s Blanket Cape
  • FoodBarbarian’s Tattered Dragon Wings
  • Grox The Great’s Wings.

·    Yoraiz0r’s Spell

Basic Stats:

Flight Time 2.5 seconds
Flight Height 77 tiles
Horizontal Speed 36 mph
Vertical Multiplier 150%
RarityCyan

Yoraiz0r’s Spell is one of the numerous developers’ wings in the game. Although the item has the same stats as the accessories in the previous entry, we decided to mention it in a different entry.

The wings have numerous cool features that differentiate them from other developers’ wings. For example, they are completely silent and leave red particles behind. The user’s eyes’ will also leave a luminous trail depending on the accessory slot where the wings are placed. Lastly, the accessory allows you to hover around.

·       Jetpack

Basic Stats:

Flight Time 2.5 seconds
Flight Height 77 tiles
Horizontal Speed 36 mph
Vertical Multiplier 150%
RarityPink

Jetpack is an item that you can get from Steampunker. It has the same stats as developers’ wings, but you can get it somewhat earlier in the game. The wings are sold for 40 gold, and they’re  accessible only during specific moon phases.

·       Fairy Wings

Basic Stats:

Flight Time 2.17 seconds
Flight Height 67 tiles
Horizontal Speed 34 mph
Vertical Multiplier 150%
RarityPink

Although easily the worst wings within this tier, we decided to add them to C-Tier just because of how easy they are to acquire. To assemble Fairy Wings, you will need Soul of Flight and 100 Pixie Dust.

You can get Pixie Dust from Pixies, a common enemy that appears at the Hallow surface. You get 1 to 3 Pixie Dust from each Pixie, but given that you need 100 ingredients, you’ll have to grind a bit. Then again, this is much easier than chasing after elusive Ice Golems or waiting for a Giant Harpy Feather to drop from a Harpy.

D-Tier

·       Harpy Wings and Frozen Wings

Basic Stats:

Flight Time 2.17 seconds
Flight Height 67 tiles
Horizontal Speed 34 mph
Vertical Multiplier 150%
RarityPink

Harpy Wings and Frozen Wings are another set of mirror wings. They have the same stats, with the only difference being that Frozen Wings glow in the dark.

You can make Harpy Wings by combining Soul of Flight and Giant Harpy Feather. Although you can get the feather’s pre-Hardmode, you still need a Hardmode crafting station and Soul of Flight to complete the recipe.

Frozen Wings are made from Soul of Flight and Ice Feather, a material procured from Ice Golems during a snow storm.

·       Sparkly Wings

Basic Stats:

Flight Time 1.67 seconds
Flight Height 53 tiles
Horizontal Speed 32 mph
Vertical Multiplier 150%
RarityWhite

Following the same logic as with Fairy Wings, we decided to put Sparkly Wings in D-tier despite its underwhelming stats. You can buy the item for 40 gold from Dryad during the Blood Moon event. Using gold instead of components can be important in the long run, which makes them much better than Angel Wings and Demon Wings.

·       Leaf Wings

Basic Stats:

Flight Time 1.67 seconds
Flight Height 53 tiles
Horizontal Speed 32 mph
Vertical Multiplier 150%
RarityPink

Leaf Wings have the same stats as Sparkly Wings and are good for the same reason. The only difference between the two is that these ones are a bit more expensive (75 gold instead of 40), and you buy them from Witch Doctor during the night.

E-Tier

·       Fin Wings

Basic Stats:

Flight Time 2.17 seconds
Flight Height 67 tiles
Horizontal Speed 34 mph
Vertical Multiplier 150%
RarityLight Red

Fin Wings are brutally hard to obtain. You can only get them from Angler’s quests at a rate of 1 to 70. The item can only drop after finishing 10 quests on Hardmode. In other words, you need to be a real fishing fanatic to have any chance of getting Fin Wings.

The good thing about these wings is that they’re on the same level as the D-tier wings. Although you shouldn’t necessarily grind them, they are solid early Hardmode wings.

·       Angel Wings and Demon Wings

Basic Stats:

Flight Time 1.67 seconds
Flight Height 53 tiles
Horizontal Speed 32 mph
Vertical Multiplier 150%
RarityPink

Angels and Demon Wings have the same stats as Leaf/Sparkly Wings. Unfortunately, while you can buy the latter with gold, these ones require components. Investing so many Souls of Flight, Feathers, and Souls of Night/Light (Souls of Light for Angel Wings, Souls of Night for Demon Wings) can prevent you from making some other recipes.

Instead, it’s much better to purchase Leaf or Sparkly Wings and save all these components for something more important.
