It’s a new mechanic added by Terraria Overhaul. It implements a seasons system in the game. Each season changes the Forest Biome, affecting the enemies that spawn.

For example, here is the list of some modifications occurring during Summer:

  • The surface is much brighter.
  • Forest grass turns a lime-green hue.
  • Fires spread 2 times faster than usual.
  • Any water located outdoors will begin to evaporate.
  • Hurricanes (a special storm added by Terraria Overhaul) will have a 50% chance to appear when the rain starts.
  • During rains, the enemies’ spawn rate is increased by 3 times, and the Mushroom Theme is played.
  • Lighting Strikes have more chance to occur during rains and hurricanes.
  • Bushes can grow on grass.
  • Beehives will appear across the Surface.
  • Red Slimes and Large Bees have an increased chance to spawn.
  • Small Bees have a high chance to appear when cutting grass.
  • Queen Bee may spawn randomly sometimes, at dawn.
  • etc…

To check when the next season is coming, you can buy a Calendar for 1 Gold Coin from the Merchant. By right-clicking it, it will display the number of days remaining until the next season.

Player Movement

Terraria Overhaul modifies the ways the player can move.

Dodge rolls

By pressing the corresponding key, the player can roll forwards, which provides brief immunity to most enemies’ attacks. Dodge Roll can also be used when the player is in the air, to increase its speed in one direction or to reduce fall damage.

Terraria Overhaul Dodge Roll

Climbing

If you hold up next to non-slippery tiles, you can climb thanks to Terraria Overhaul.

Jumping

The jump mechanic is also modified a lot by Terraria Overhaul. You can’t jump as high as before. Instead, you have new ways of moving in the air.

Bunny Hop

If you hold your jump key while touching the ground after a jump, you can jump again and increase your speed. This mechanic allows you to increase your speed up to an infinite amount.

Explosive Jump

Using any kind of explosive, you can jump higher. You just have to hit your jump key when the explosive detonates. You can also use a Rocket Jumper. It’s a utility you can buy from the Demolitionist for 10 Gold Coins allowing you to be propelled the same way an explosive can do it.

Wall Flip

At the moment you hit a wall, you can change your direction to do a Wall Flip. It’s like a Dodge Roll, but from a wall, allowing you to not lose speed and to gain brief invulnerability.

Wall Jump

If you are equipped with one Ninja-related accessory (Climbing Claws, Master Ninja Gear, etc…), you can jump from a wall. You can repeat this indefinitely, allowing you to climb quickly vertical tunnels.

minor movement modifications

  • While you’re in the water, you can swim by holding up and jump.
  • If you fall at a high speed, you can ground-pound enemies.

Fire system

Terraria Overhaul adds a new challenging mechanic: the Fire System. Some weapons or items (such as torches) can create fire when hitting blocks. And fire can spread to nearby flammable blocks, platforms, NPCs, etc… It can quickly become out of control, especially during Summer. Fires can also set off explosives.

You can extinguish the fire using items such as the Water Gun, the Aqua Scepter, the Water Bolt, etc…

When building your first house, you have to take into consideration fires may occur. Because if you don’t, you can quickly lose your starter house. So don’t use any wood materials when building your first house if you don’t want it to get destroyed by fire.

When too much grass is burnt, it will create a new biome called The Ashes. It’s a biome dangerous in the early game because enemies deal a lot of damage to a new player.

Weather

Terraria Overhaul adds new weather phenomena to the game.

Lighting Strikes

When it rains in your world, there’s a small chance that a Lighting Strike appear and strike blocks around you, creating fire if it hits flammable blocks and inflicting you the Electrified debuff. This debuff makes you take damage when you move.

A Lighting Strike has some special effects:

  • If it hits Sand Blocks, it will turn them into Glass.
  • If it hits water or metallic blocks, it will propagate a shockwave dealing damage and inflicting the Electrified debuff.

You can craft Lightning Rods using 8 Iron/Lead Bars to prevent Lightning Strikes from being too destructive. Indeed, Lightning Rods redirect Lightning Strikes to them and cancel their effects.

Hurricanes

During Summer, rain can often be replaced by Hurricanes. They are special storms indicated by a message in the chat: “Looks like a storm is brewing.”

Hurricanes gradually increase wind in your world, up to 1000mph. It causes sharks, piranhas, and trees to spawn and fly around. Sharks and piranhas will stop flying after hitting a wall, but trees will pass through walls.

Hurricanes also increase the chance to see Lighting Strikes by 5x.

If you’re a new player, it’s better to stay indoors while there is a Hurricane in your world because sharks and piranhas can’t get inside.

Temperature

Temperature is a new feature added by Terraria Overhaul, allowing you to receive some buffs or debuffs depending on the season and what is happening around you. Here is the list of effects:

  • Overheat: gives immunity to cold debuffs and increases the duration of heat debuffs (On Fire! for example). Gives Heat Distortion visual effect.
  • Hot: reduces the duration of cold debuffs while increasing the duration of heat debuffs.
  • Warm: reduces the duration of cold debuffs.
  • None
  • Breezy: reduces the duration of heat debuffs.
  • Freezing: the opposite of Hot. If the player is in water, he will be granted the Chilled debuff.
  • Coldburn: the opposite of Overheat. If the player is in water, he will be granted the Chilled debuff.

For example, if the season is Summer, and you’re next to a torch and a furnace, the temperature will be high and you will receive the Overheat debuff.

Weaknesses/Resistances

Terraria Overhaul adds a damage mechanic, allowing you to deal more or less damage to enemies depending on the weapons you use and the type of enemies you’re attacking. So, Terraria Overhaul classifies certain weapons in one of the following three categories

  • Water-Themed weapons: includes the Water Bolt, the Aqua Scepter, and ice-type weapons. These weapons are strong against Underworld enemies, but weak against Snow Biome and Underground Snow Biome enemies.
  • Demonic-Themed weapons: includes the Demon Scythe, the Unholy Trident, and corruption-type weapons. These weapons are strong against Hallow enemies.
  • Fire-Themed weapons: includes the Hel-Fire and the Sunfury. These weapons are strong against Snow Biome and Underground Snow Biome enemies, but weak against Ashes enemies.

Durability

It’s a mechanic affecting tools and weapons. The more you use a tool or a weapon, the more it will become worn, making it deal less damage and losing accuracy for the ranged weapons.

There are multiple durability levels for your tools, and each time you get to a new level, a message will be displayed in the chat. Here are the durability levels:

  • Under 80%: a message will be displayed in the chat, but you will keep 100% damage and accuracy on your item.
  • Under 45%: 89% damage and accuracy.
  • Under 23%: 80% damage and accuracy.
  • 0%: 25% damage and accuracy.

Using 3 Iron/Lead Bars and 10 Wood, you can craft a Repair Table. You can use this table to repair your items, but you also have to provide the main material used to craft the item you’re trying to repair.

For items without a crafting recipe, you can use a repair kit. There are two types of repair kits:

  • Primitive Repair Kit: used to repair pre-hardmode gear. It can be bought from the Merchant for 2 Gold Coins, or from the Goblin Tinkerer for 1 Gold Coin.
  • Goblin Repair Kit: used to repair hardmode gear. It can be bought from the Goblin Tinkerer for 1 Gold Coin.

Evil Blooming

Evil Blooming is a phenomenon occurring during Autumn. It makes the world evil (either the Corruption or the Crimson) much more threatening.

Enemies are stronger and their spawn rate is increased a lot. If you kill a lot of monsters, you can also make spawn the Eater of Worlds or the Brain of Cthulhu. If you’re in pre-hardmode, hardmode enemies may spawn with decreased stats and buffs.

Quick Action

It’s a system providing quick access to additional weapons, tools, or other activable items. When hitting the assigned key, it will open a HUD allowing you to select an item you want to use. By default, F will use your selected item, and X will bring up the Quick Action Wheel allowing you to select another item.

The Quick Action Wheel is automatically filled with items and you cannot modify this behavior (else it would be too overpowered, allowing powerful combinations).

This wheel fills itself with:

  • Useful special items (Magic Mirror, Bug Net, …)
  • Thrown Weapons
  • Shortswords
  • Summon Weapons
  • Explosives

Sleeping

The player can now sleep at night to fast-forward time and regenerate health. To sleep, you just have to right-click on a bed. There are some conditions to respect for the player to be able to sleep:

  • It must be night or the player must have the Heavy Sleeper buff (you get it from a Sleeping Potion).
  • There must be no one in the bed.
  • There must be no bosses alive.
  • There mustn’t be any ongoing event such as the Frost Moon for example.
  • There must be no enemies around.

Weapons changes

There are a lot of changes affecting swords. Now, most of the weapons can auto-swing, meaning you just have to hold your Attack button for the weapon to attack continuously.

There are also mechanic changes to weapons or tools to make them more powerful. For example, you can now use hammers to fight enemies, as you can use a special attack with them. Another example: broadswords now allow you to execute kind of dash-attacks, dealing damage to multiple enemies in a row.

Terraria Overhaul hitting with a hammer

Other changes

Bosses

Terraria Overhaul makes some bosses’ fights slightly harder. For example, when fighting King Slime, the Slime Rain event will occur. His defense is increased and his AI is changed. Also, some bosses’ animations are changed.

Content

Terraria Overhaul adds some content to the game, such as new ammunition, new enemies, one new accessory, etc…

Minor changes

There are some minor changes added to the game when playing with Terraria Overhaul. For example, the max stacks are rounded to 100, 1000, and 1000, for example. Or when you’re talking to NPCs, the camera will focus on them and zoom in. These changes are not important and you will discover them over time.

Balance changes

There are also balance changes. For example, the Meteorite is only accessible after defeating the Eater of Worlds or the Brain of Cthulhu. Also, when crafting torches with Gel and Wood, you only get 1 torch now. To get 3, you can craft them using Charcoal instead (a material added by Terraria Overhaul you can get on trees stroke by lightning).

Banner rework

Instead of granting more damage dealt to enemies and less damage taken from enemies, corresponding to the banner, they double the chance you have to drop main loot from enemies.

Blood/Gore

When killing monsters, blood and gore will appear. You can clean them using a Mop which is a special spear, or by throwing water using a water bucket.

Emotes

When playing multiplayer, it can be good to use emotes. Terraria Overhaul adds an emote wheel similar to the one for Quick Action, allowing you to choose among 35 emotes to communicate with your mates.

Critical Strike rework

Critical Strikes are completely different in Terraria Overhaul. Instead of being random, you can charge your critical chance using weapons, and once you reach 100% critical chance, you can unleash a powerful attack. This feature can be disabled in the Terraria Overhaul settings.

10 Best Terraria Resource Packs https://avidgamer.gg/best-terraria-resource-packs/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=best-terraria-resource-packs Sat, 03 Sep 2022 10:14:27 +0000 https://avidgamer.gg/?p=1103 More...]]> Terraria resource packs are especially great for veterans. If you’ve played this game for years, there’s a good chance things will go stale at one point. Terraria mods can rekindle your love and bring about some crazy changes to the base game.

Before we get into the best add-ons, you should learn how to install them.

Adding Terraria Resource packs to the game

Installing these new features is pretty straightforward:

  • Find an appropriate zip file online and download it.
  • Extract all the files on your desktop.
  • Drag the files to your Terraria/Resource Packs folder located at the designated installation location.
  • Once you open the game, click on the Texture Packs option within the Main Menu.
  • Find the resource pack and click on the red arrow.

10 Best Terraria resource packs

1. Calamity Texture Pack

Calamity is one of the most comprehensive mods for the game. Even now, the creators still work on it, adding new features regularly. Calamity significantly improves the base graphics while adding numerous new skins for the weapons, armor, and equipment.

For us, this is the best-looking resource pack available online. Even if you’re a new player and are still getting used to the game, it’s worth upgrading to the Calamity Texture Pack. However, the mod works best for veterans who want a refresh of the old content.

Follow this link to the Calamity Texture Pack download page.

2. Minecraft Texture Pack

As you can guess, most people who like Terraria are also fans of Minecraft. In many ways, these two games are interchangeable, allowing players to experiment by creating magnificent structures and showing them off to friends.

Minecraft Texture Pack alters the graphics so that the game resembles Minecraft. Like the Calamity, this add-on receives continuous updates. Keep in mind that the creators haven’t changed anything within the game; they just updated its appearance.

Follow this link to the Minecraft Texture Pack download page.

3. Slim Terrarians & Monster Girls

This mod focuses on the appearance of NPCs and monsters. As the name implies, Slim Terrarians & Monster Girls changed numerous hostiles into females. This is especially appealing to the male audience, but I bet that even ladies will find these new enemies to be adorable.

Aside from enemies, the mod changes how the players look. All the in-game characters, including NPCs, have slimmer bodies. This also changes the appearance of armors, making them feel more rugged. The thing we found interesting is that they changed the Karate Tortoise vanity set. Instead of the usual Leonardo, it now features Raphael.

Follow this link to the Slim Terrarians & Monster Girls download page.

4. Better Ambiance Texture Pack

As the name suggests, Better Ambiance Texture mod makes the world much more vibrant. This is most noticeable when you look at the surface grass and flowers. However, the tiles are also a bit different, having more sprites than previously.

Background also experienced a few changes. It now features more clouds while utilizing several extra colors compared to the vanilla version. The developers also made a few changes to the water as it now looks livelier.

Follow this link to the Better Ambiance Texture Pack download page.

5. Clockwork Mechs

We are big fans of Clockwork Mechs. It’s a minor mod compared to some others on the list, only affecting the appearance of bosses. They now have additional metallic parts, with a focus on copper, gold, and silver colors. Basically, all the boss enemies now look like something from a steampunk cartoon.

Even if you don’t want to change the basic graphics, we recommend adding these files to the list. It makes the monsters much more menacing, thus improving the overall experience during these tough fights.

Follow this link to the Clockwork Mechs download page.

6. KATTUI Texture Pack

Although there are a lot of interesting graphic packs for Terraria, there’s nothing quite like the KATTUI Texture Pack. Despite its name, the mod actually focuses on UI improvements. For example, it changes how the health and mana bars look, and instead of stars and hearts, you now get the traditional long bars. This makes it much easier to understand how much health you’ve remaining.

The inventory also experienced lots of improvements. It looks much more polished, and it’s easier to comprehend. Among others, the mod makes it easier to navigate around and discover new parts of the map. You also get controller support and access to new settings.

Follow this link to the KATTUI Texture Pack download page.

7. Doom Eternal Boss Music Pack

This resource pack is self-explanatory. When going against Terraria bosses, Doom music starts blasting in the background. Although you might think that the concept is silly, it’s the best way to pump your adrenaline in somewhat static Terraria.

The mod features 12 Doom tracks, which apply to pre-Hardmode and Hardmode bosses. This is definitely one of our favorite resources, and you can use it regardless of your current texture and UI setup.

Follow this link to the Doom Eternal Boss Music Pack download page.

8. Various custom fonts

Aside from music and textures, you can also tinker a bit with fonts. Although we have no issues with Terraria’s default font, you might want to explore other options. By going to Steam, you can check out different packs including Andalus, Times New Roman, Georgia, Ringbearer, and a few other features.

Follow this link to the Various Custom Fonts download page.

9. New Age Retro Pack

This particular retro pack takes you back to the time of vanilla Terraria. The best thing about it is that you can combine it with other mods, as it doesn’t clash with other mods and updates.

New Age Retro Pack is ideal for old-school Terraria players who have been with the game from the get-go. It’s an awesome blast from the past, and it also features some old items from the game. Of course, we won’t recommend it to new players.

Follow this link to the New Age Retro Pack download page.

10. Horrible Bosses Pack

Horrible Bosses Pack is another silly upgrade that changes the appearance of bosses in the game. It can interfere with some other graphic and boss texture mods, so make sure to turn those off while applying this one.

Basically, all the bosses in the game look like hand drawings made by small children. These new models are simply atrocious, which is why you have to try them out. We especially like combining it with Doom music, as it completely alters boss fights.

Thorium: An Awesome Terraria Mod https://avidgamer.gg/thorium-an-awesome-terraria-mod/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=thorium-an-awesome-terraria-mod Fri, 02 Sep 2022 14:24:38 +0000 https://avidgamer.gg/?p=1195 More...]]> Thorium mod installation

The first step to getting started with this mod is to install it. You can do it easily through tModLoader. Just go to “Download Mods” and type “Thorium mod” in the search bar. You can then install this mod with its dependencies.

14 new bosses

Thorium mod adds a lot of bosses. It adds 3 mini-bosses, 6 pre-hardmode bosses, and 5 hardmode bosses. Here is a list of some bosses:

  • Grand Thunder Bird: he’s the easiest boss added by the Thorium mod. it has the lowest damage and health of all bosses, even less than the King Slime. You can get some useful very early-game items such as a magic staff or a bow when you defeat him. To spawn him, you have to craft a Grand Flare Gun and use it with a Storm Flare as ammunition. It will only work if you’re in the Desert Biome and during the day. You can craft these things using Iron/Lead Bars, Talons, and Arcane Dust.
  • Viscount: he’s a pre-hardmode boss that must be fought underground. He drops bat and vampire items, such as the Vampire Scepter (a staff draining enemies’ life) or the Bat Wing (a yoyo releasing homing bat projectiles). He can be summoned using 5 Unholy Shards at a Blood Altar. You drop Unholy Shards on enemies during the Blood Moon, and you can find a Blood Altar in Blood Chambers (structures found underground).
  • Star Scouter: the Star Scouter is a pre-hardmode boss who can be considered specific to the Space Biome. By defeating him, you will get Star items such as the Hit Scanner (a gun transforming your munition into a beam traveling very quickly) or the Star Rod (a heal spell making stars fall from the sky to the cursor and healing allies they touch). To make it spawn, you have to craft a Star Caller using 10 Meteorite Bars and 1 Strange Alien Tech (you drop it from U.F.O encountered around meteorites). You have to use the Star Caller in the Space Biome to summon the Star Scouter.
  • Borean Strider: this is the easiest hardmode boss added by Thorium you can fight. It’s a Snow Biome-specific boss. Some useful items you can drop on this boss are the Glacier (a powerful sword) or the Freeze Ray (a gun shooting 3 bullets in succession, inflicting the Freezing debuff, causing enemies to move significantly slower). This boss spawns naturally in the Snow Biome during blizzards, but you can also make him spawn naturally using a Strider’s Tear in the Snow Biome, also during blizzards. You can drop this item on hardmode monsters living in the Snow Biome.
  • Forgotten One: it’s a post-Plantera boss found in the Aquatic Depths (a biome added by Thorium). You can drop an armor on this boss: the Whispering Armor. It’s an armor increasing radiant damage (new damage type added by Thorium) a lot, and also giving a lot of defense. You can make it spawn by killing 3 Aquatic Hallucinations found in the Aquatic Depths.
  • The Primordials: it’s the final Thorium boss. It’s a post-Moon Lors boss. You drop the very end-game crafting materials on them. You can summon them using the Doom Sayer’s Coin at night. It’s a consumable you can craft using fragments of each Lunar Events pillar.
Borean Strider Thorium mod
The Borean Strider

1 new biome

Thorium only adds 1 biome. But it adds tons of new things to other biomes as it adds new enemies, so also new loot, new weapons, new armor, etc…

The unique biome added by Thorium is called “The Aquatic Depths”. It’s an underground biome filled with water. You can find it underneath the Ocean’s sand, on the opposite side of the Dungeon. You can enter this biome from a huge hole in the sand. You find in this biome unique blocks, enemies, and items. There is also new music.

As this biome is completely underwater, it can be hard to explore it. That’s why you can find ambient objects releasing bubbles granting the Refreshing Bubble buff, allowing you to breathe underwater and to move at normal speed for a short duration. You can catch these bubbles from a bigger range if you hold the Bubble Magnet tool in your hand. You can find it in Water Chests.

The new ore added by this biome is the Aquaite. Combining it with other items in this biome such as Pearls will allow you to craft water-related stuff like the Tide Hunter or the Depth Diver sets.

While in the Aquatic Depths, you will be affected by a debuff making you lose health over time if you’re exposed to air. This debuff is removed once you have defeated the Forgotten One.

Thorium the Aquatic Depths

3 new classes

Thorium adds 2 new classes to the game and develops one existing class to make it more individual. This class is the Thrower Class.

Thrower

There are already throwing weapons in Terraria. But these weapons don’t do some specific damage, and there is no Throwing Class in vanilla.

Thorium adds one and develops it with more than 100 items. It adds new mechanics:

  • Throwing damage: throwing weapons deal this type of damage. There are armors and accessories implemented in Thorium increasing throwing damage.
  • Technique Scrolls: these items can be used to grant the player special abilities. Using a Technique Scroll draws from the player’s Technique Points. They regenerate when the player deals throwing damage. For example, there is a technique allowing the player to teleport to the cursor’s location.
  • Thrower Exhaustion: this mechanic adds an exhaustion bar. It’s a bar filling up when the player uses a non-consumable throwing weapon. When the bar is complete, the player gets the Exhaustion debuff for 20 seconds, reducing throwing damage by 20% per use of a non-consumable throwing weapon.

Healer

The Healer Class is a new class added by Thorium. It aims to provide health to allies, functioning as a support. It makes this class useful mainly in multiplayer. But this class can also be played in single-player as there are some healer items dealing damage. This damage is called radiant damage. But keep in mind the main purpose of this class isn’t to deal damage but to heal and support allies.

This class also adds new mechanics to the game:

  • Soul Essence: damaging enemies with Scythes will provide some amount of Soul Essence. When the player has collected 5 stacks of Soul Essence, he will recover mana and health based on his healer stats.
  • Radiant Corruption: certain equipment can “corrupt your radiant powers”. It means your corrupted radiant weapons will begin to inflict either the Light Curse debuff dealing 8 damage per second to the target, or the Shadowflame debuff making enemies lose 15 health per second and preventing health regeneration.
  • Auras: auras are summoned using spells. They look like big rings around the player, granting effects to all the nearby allies.

Bard

The Bard is the second class added by Thorium. It focuses on providing short buffs while dealing symphonic damage. This class works better in multiplayer because the buffs can also affect allies standing nearby the Bard.

This class adds new mechanics to the game:

  • Inspiration: it’s a resource similar to mana used to make bard weapons work. It regenerates automatically. Some items, consumables, and equipment can improve the Inspiration-related stats.
  • Big Instruments: some bard weapons are called Big Instruments. They utilize a timing mechanic. You need to utilize the weapon while a marker is over a highlighted area to gain buffs and make the weapon more powerful.

mechanics

Thorium mod adds some mechanics. We’ve already seen some of them above when talking about classes. It also modifies a lot of existing mechanics.

  • Crowd Control: these are new debuffs you can inflict on enemies. They allow you to slow enemies down, stun them, increase the damage they take, make airborne enemies fall, etc…
  • Death Prevention: when your health reaches 0 in vanilla, you instantly die. Thanks to this new mechanic, various items can prevent you from dying, delay your death, or revive you with some health.
  • Life Shield: some items allow you to temporarily increase your maximum health. You can get this additional health using weapons, tools, accessories, or armor.
  • Out of Combat: you’re considered out of combat when you have not damaged an enemy in the last 5 seconds. Some items work differently or have different effects when you’re in/out of combat.
  • Special Abilities: some armor and equipment can give special effects when you hit the “Special Ability” key. For example, the Celestial Armor allows you to create a healing aura around you when you hit the key. Some Special Abilities have a cooldown, meaning you have to wait a defined time before being able to use them again.
  • Transformations: certain items added by Thorium allow you to transform into creatures or enemies. You can’t use any item while you’re transformed, you can only use the abilities given by the transformation. For example, the Magma Charm allows you to transform into a kind of lava fish, making you immune to lava, reducing your fall damage, and making you able to fit into 1-block tall gaps.

In addition to these mechanics, there are those whose we talked about earlier and there are modifications to existing mechanics such as new Fish Rods or new items rarities.

10 new town NPCs

Thorium adds a lot of new NPCs. Most of them are special in the sense that they can do special actions. Some basic NPCs are the Blacksmith (although he can be very useful as it sells ores), the Diverman (he’s selling sea stuff such as Corals), or the Druid (he’s selling seeds which can be useful in the early game). The others are:

  • Desert Acolyte: sells desert-related stuff. He can trigger a sandstorm in the Desert for 1 Gold Coin. He comes into your world after the Grand Thunderbird has been defeated
  • Tracker: he hands out contracts to kill certain enemies. The items he sells depend on the contracts you’ve completed. He comes into your world after the Eye of Cthulhu has been defeated.
  • Weapon Master: an hardmode NPC selling some weapons. You can hire him for 10 Gold Coins. It will make a demon minion spawn, following you and attacking enemies. He comes into your world after the Fallen Beholder has been defeated.
  • Cobbler: this NPC sells boots and movement speed-related accessories. He can grant you a buff for free making you move faster and emitting some light when moving. He comes into your world if you have any boots in your inventory and if you also have an Aglet (HOW TO GET AN AGLET FAST IN TERRARIA (FULL GUIDE 2022)) and an Anklet of the Wind.
  • Confused Zombie: he sells zombie-related stuff. Every morning, he can sell you an Enemy Repellent (consumable making a kind of enemies passive for one day) at the cost of 1 Gold Coin. He comes into your world after Patch Werk (a mini-boss spawning during Blood Moon) has been defeated.
  • Cook: the cook sells you consumable items restoring health, mana, or granting buffs. You can give him Recipes to make him sell more powerful consumables. He comes into your world after King Slime has been defeated.
  • Spiritualist: he sells spirituality-related items. You can give him 5 Purified Shards to be granted a buff allowing you to respawn when you die, for 5 minutes. He comes into your world after Buried Champion has been defeated.

1 new structure

Thorium adds a unique structure: the Blood Chamber. It’s located within the Caverns and made of obsidian items. In the center of this structure, there is a Blood Altar, which is used to summon the Viscount. There is only one Blood Chamber per world.

Thorium Blood Chamber

TONS OF NEW ITEMS AND ENEMIES

There are tons of new items and enemies added to the game by the Thorium mod. Each new boss has a lot of corresponding items, the Aquatic Depths biome has its content, there are new items related to the new game mechanics, etc… The list is huge.

For more information about Thorium mod, consider checking the Thorium Mod wiki. On the wiki, there is also a Boss Progression Guide. It’s something useful if you’re beginning with Thorium mod but not mandatory as Thorium follows the classic vanilla gameplay. You can also find Class Setups on the wiki. There is also a Discord server where you can talk about this mod and find tips: Thorium Mod Discord.

40 new bosses

Yes, this number is amazing. Calamity mod adds a lot of new bosses. It adds 12 mini-bosses, 5 pre-hardmode bosses, 9 hardmode bosses, 13 post-Moon Lord bosses, and 1 super boss. Here is a list of some bosses:

  • Desert Scourge: this one is the easiest boss added by Calamity mod. It is intended to be fought after King Slime and before the Eye of Cthulhu. You can drop useful items such as the Seabound Staff which is one of the first summoning weapons you can get in the game. It summons a starfish-like minion. To summon this boss, you need a Desert Medallion which is an item you can craft using materials found in the Desert.
  • The Slime God: it is the hardest pre-hardmode boss added by Calamity mod. The boss is comprised of three main parts, the Crimulan Slime God, the Ebonian Slime God, and the Core itself. You can make it spawn using an Overloaded Sludge which requires you to farm some slimes added by the Calamity mod to get the crafting materials. This boss drops the Mana Polarizer which is one of the best accessories to enter hardmode.
  • Cryogen: the first hardmode boss added by Calamity mod you’re supposed to fight. You can spawn it using a Cryo Key you can get using some Souls of Night and some Souls of Light, and also some materials found in the Snow Biome. You can drop a lot of good items on him, and also defeating him makes Cryonic Ores spawn in the Ice Biome where he was defeated. These ores can be used to craft Cryonic Bars, unlocking you a new armor and tons of new items.
  • Astrum Deus: it’s a hardmode boss. When you begin the fight against it, he looks like the Destroyer but it splits later in the fight. Defeating it is required to be able to mine Astral Ores, used for Astral Bars, one of the most advanced bars you can get pre-Moon Lord. You can drop on this boss things such as The Microwave, a powerful yoyo.
  • Jungle Dragon, Yharon: this one is a major post-Moon Lord boss, fought in the Jungle. It’s one of the most emblematic Calamity mod bosses. He’s incredibly challenging. Defeating him will give you access to the Auric Ores, unlocking one of the highest tiers of equipment in the game. He also drops some very powerful weapons.
  • Supreme Calamitas: also one of the major bosses in Calamity mod. It is one of the most challenging bosses in the game. Defeating this boss will grant you access to the Enchantment mechanic (we’ll talk about it later).
  • Adult Eidolon Wyrm: this is currently the only super boss in Calamity mod. Super bosses are bosses with immense health, defense, and damage (this super boss has 2 100 000 health in normal difficulty for example). Defeating this super boss unlocks very endgame items.

5 new biomes

Calamity mod adds 5 new biomes including their structures and enemies. But it also modifies some of the already existing biomes because it adds new enemies, structures, etc…

Sulphurous sea

It’s a biome replacing the Ocean on the Dungeon side of the world. It is composed of Sulphurous Sand. Sometimes, bubbles can spawn above Sulphurous Sand, inflicting the Poisoned debuff if they hit the player.

After the Eye of Cthulhu has been defeated, Acid Rain can occur in this biome. This is an event making new enemies spawn. You can get good drops helping you in pre-hardmode thanks to this event.

Abyss

This biome is located just under the Sulphurous Sea. Indeed, there is a hole in the Sulphurous Sea allowing you to go directly deep into the Abyss.

This biome is divided into multiple layers. The deeper you go into the Abyss, the more dangerous it becomes. The two last layers are supposed to be explored, post-Moon Lord.

Astral infection

Upon defeating the Wall of Flesh, this biome will spawn in the world on the Dungeon side. It looks like a meteorite. Like Corruption, Crimson or Jungle, this biome will infect the nearby terrain and try to extend. You’re informed this spawn has spawned when you see the following message appearing on your screen: “A star has fallen from the heavens!”.

The meteor is made of Astral Ores, which you can only mine after defeating the boss Astrum Deus. This biome transforms the terrain into astral, Dirt becomes Astral Dirt, Stone becomes Astral Stone, etc…

Brimstone Crag

This biome is located on the right side of the Underworld. It is composed of Brimstone Slags and Charred Ores.

Lava is deadly in this biome because touching it won’t inflict the classic Lava debuff, but it will inflict the Searing Lava debuff, making you quickly lose your health. You can’t use lava immunity items such as the Lava Charm to be protected from this debuff.

Sunken Sea

The Sunken Sea is an aquatic biome you can find underneath the Underground Desert. It is composed of a series of caves filled with water. This biome is illuminated by glowing blue Prism Shards.

Most of the creatures you find in this biome are peaceful until provoked. This biome is more useful in hardmode than in pre-hardmode. Enemies also receive new abilities and drop new things in hardmode, making the exploration of this biome harder.

Terraria Calamity mod Biomes

1 new class

This one is a big one as it is not anything to add a class to the existing classes in Terraria. The class added by Calamity mod is the Rogue class. This class is largely developed in Calamity because there are a lot of weapons, accessories, armor sets, etc… for it.

Playing with the Rogue class grants you a new mechanic: Stealth.

Stealth

When playing Rogue, if you don’t use any weapon for some time, you will gain Stealth. For each point of Stealth, you become a little more invisible (enemies are less likely to see you) and you gain +0.5% Rogue damage.

When Stealth is full, you can do a Stealth Strike, dealing a lot of damage around your target but consuming all your Stealth. Stealth is initially recovered in 3 or 9 seconds depending on your max Stealth.

Throwing class compatibility

Because Rogue damage is internally throwing damage, the Rogue class and the Throwing class are compatible. But it only works in one way:

  • Increased throwing damage will increase Rogue damage.
  • Increased Rogue damage won’t increase throwing damage.

Mechanics

We can’t give a number to the mechanics added by the Calamity mod, as it adds some mechanics, but also modifies a lot some of the already existing mechanics.

  • Aggro: it determines the distance at which enemies will attack the player. In vanilla, as soon as an enemy is on your screen, he will attack you, but thanks to aggro enemies will only attack you if you are too close to them.
  • Boss Rush: it’s a special event that will summon all the vanilla and Calamity mod bosses sequentially and in a predetermined order. The bosses spawn with increased health and damage. It’s recommended to try this event after all bosses have been defeated. You get nothing for defeating this event except a little trophy, it’s purely for challenge.
  • Revengeance Mode/Death Mode/Malice Mode: Calamity mod adds these three difficulty modes. Revengeance is harder than expert. It increases enemies’ spawn rate, enemies and bosses AI, and it also adds two mechanics, Rage Meter and Adrenaline Meter. Death Mode is more difficult than Revengeance Mode. It boosts enemies’ and bosses’ health, and damage, and allows bosses to spawn randomly. Malice is the hardest difficulty. It gives every boss a new AI.
  • Death Prevention: some items in the Calamity mod prevent death if the player takes fatal damage. It makes the player respawn with a certain amount of health.
  • Enchantment: it’s a mechanic unlocked in the very endgame. It allows you to apply new qualities to items. Each enchantment has an upside and a downside. For example, the “Aflame” enchantment allows your weapons to inflict a new debuff on enemies but it makes you lose health while you’re holding the weapon enchanted in your hand.
  • Proficiency: proficiency is a series of five attributes (one for each damage class) scaling in the game as the player progress. When you hit enemies, you gain proficiency for the damage type you hit the enemies with. The more proficiency you have for one damage type, the more your damage, speed, crit rate, etc… are increased.

In addition to these new mechanics, Calamity mod modifies existing mechanics such as fishing, debuffs, music in the game, etc…

5 new town NPCs

Calamity adds some new NPCs to the game:

  • Sea King: the Sea King is an NPC selling you some weapons or useful items such as Truffle Worms once Duke Fishron has been defeated. He can also grant you a unique buff allowing you to breathe underwater for 10 minutes or until you get hit. He can spawn after the Desert Scourge has been defeated.
  • Bandit: the Bandit is an NPC selling you Rogue-related weapons, accessories, and potions. He spawns after Skeletron has been defeated and if you have at least one Platinum Coin somewhere.
  • Drunk Princess: she sells you alcohol granting you buffs depending on your progression. She can also count the number of times you died in the world.
  • Archmage: he can spawn after Cryogen has been defeated and sells you ice-related items.
  • Brimstone Witch: she spawns after Supreme Calamitas has been defeated and can enchant your weapons.

5 new structures

Just like the Calamity mod adds new biomes, this mod also adds new structures:

  • Evil Island: an Evil Island is a unique sky island containing content of the opposite Evil Biome not present in your world. If your world is a Corruption Biome, the Evil Island will be Crimson for example. It contains blocks, ores, and a Biome Chest similar to those found in the Dungeon.
  • Shrines: Calamity mod adds new types of shrines to your world such as Corruption Shrines, Ice Shrines, Mushroom Shrines…
  • Arsenal Labs: these are abandoned research facilities generated in the Cavern layer. They contain various loots and are useful because you find in those things required to charge some weapons.
  • Planetoids: planetoids are like small planets you may find in the Space layer. There are many variants of Planetoids providing various loots.

Tons of new items and enemies

There are tons of new items and enemies added to the game by the Calamity mod. Each new biome has its corresponding enemies, each new boss has a lot of corresponding items, there are new items related to the new game mechanics, etc… The list is huge.

For more information about Calamity mod, consider checking the Calamity Mod wiki. On the wiki, there is also a Mod Progression Guide. It’s something very useful if you’re beginning with Calamity mod, as there are so many things in this mod you can be completely lost with the number of bosses, items, etc… You can also find Class Setups on the wiki. There is also a Discord server where you can talk about this mod and find tips: Calamity Mod Discord.

Ki

The base Dragon Ball Terraria mod mechanic is « Ki ». Ki is a resource linked to the player, as mana or health. Ki is displayed as a coloured bar you can move freely everywhere on your screen. It is consumed when using Ki weapons, flying, sustaining transformation, and using Instant Transmission (we’ll see everything in detail after).

Ki coloured bar
As you can see, Ki is displayed as a colored bar at the top of the screen

It has several ways of recovering :

  • Manually: using your charging Ki’s key (default: C).
  • Passively: some accessories, armors, and buffs can give you passive Ki generation. There are also items called « Ki Scrolls » which can permanently increase the amount of Ki recovered over time.

Maximum Ki can be permanently increased by consuming Ki Fragments. There are 5 types of Ki Fragments and each type can be consumed only once. They drop from bosses at a 25% rate.

There are also armors and accessories you can use to increase maximum Ki.

By default, your maximum Ki is 1000.

Flight

Flight Dragon Ball mod

Flight is a Dragon Ball Terraria mod mechanic allowing you to move through the air at the cost of Ki. To begin flying, just type your Flying’s key (default: Q) and move in any direction to fly towards it. Charging Ki while flying acts as a boost and increases your movement speed, but also increases the Ki consumption. Base consumption is 240 Ki/s which increases to 300 Ki/s while boosting.

To unlock flight, you have to craft Bukuujutsu Guide Vol 1 – Chorus Aeria. It’s a consumable item granting you the ability to fly. What is good is that you can get this item very early in the game. Then as you will go further in the game, you will have the possibility to get items related to flight to upgrade the mechanic, unlock powers or reduce the cost of Ki.

Transformations

Transformations are one of the main features of the Dragon Ball Terraria mod. They are buffs increasing a lot Ki damage (and a bit other damage types) at the cost of a constant Ki drain. They also increase defense and movement speed. The appearance of the player changes when he’s transformed.

To enable a transformation, you just have to press your Transform key. When a transformation is active, the player accumulates Mastery. When Mastery is at 100%, the Ki drain induced by the transformation is reduced.

There are a lot of transformations and some of them are only accessible if the player has the Legendary Trait (we’ll talk about traits just after). You unlock transformations successively, mastering the previous one and defeating bosses. The first one is unlocked once you defeat Skeletron and die repeatedly to bosses with a 5% chance to revive as a Super Saiyan 1. Unlocking the transformation is guaranteed on the fourth dead.

Here is the list of all transformations:

  • Super Saiyan 1
  • Ascended Super Saiyan
  • Ultra Super Saiyan
  • Super Saiyan 2
  • Super Saiyan 3
  • Super Saiyan God
  • Super Saiyan Blue
  • Super Saiyan Rosé
  • Legendary Super Saiyan (requires Legendary Trait)
  • Legendary Super Saiyan 1 (requires Legendary Trait)
  • Legendary Super Saiyan 2 (requires Legendary Trait)

Kaioken

Kaioken is a special Dragon Ball Terraria mod transformation as it is unlocked with items. It drains health instead of Ki and boosts damage while reducing defense. It also increases speed. You drop Kaioken items from bosses.

Dragon Balls

Dragon Balls are objects you can find anywhere on the map. There are 7 Dragon Balls and if you find them all you can be granted a wish. A wish is a special effect affecting the player. Some wishes have limited uses. There are 5 wishes:

  • Power: Increases all damage by 10% and gives the player +20 health and +500 max Ki. Can be used 5 times.
  • Wealth: Gives the player 10 platinum coins and a Lucky Coin. Unlimited uses.
  • Immortality: Gives the player the ability to survive the next 3 times he would normally die. Can be used 1 time.
  • Genetic Reroll: Gives the player a random Trait. Unlimited uses.
  • Awakening: Gives the player the next transformation in his progression. Unlimited uses.

Dragon Balls may be found anywhere on the map, making them hard to find. Fortunately, you can craft radars allowing you to have an indication of where are Dragon Balls. There are 3 radars with different accuracies. The worst of them stop working at 80 blocks from a Dragon Ball.

Traits

In Dragon Ball Terraria mod, Traits are characteristics innate to a player. They grant unique aspects to Transformations. You get traits either randomly at character creation or using a Genetic Reroll wish. There are two traits:

  • Prodigy: allows the player to master transformations faster.
  • Legendary: double player’s maximum Ki. Allows unlocking legendary transformations.

Instant Transmission

Instant Transmission is a Dragon Ball Terraria mod allowing you to teleport. You can teleport to NPC, players, Ki Beacons, or just freely. To teleport, you just have to press the key Instant Transmission is bound to. You can unlock Instant Transmission with consumable items you drop from bosses or craft in hardmode.

The first tier is basic teleportation allowing you to teleport to NPC, players, or Ki Beacons (Ki Beacons are crafted using teleporters). The second tier allows you to teleport anywhere, but it is crafted using Rod of Discord and Souls of Sight. The last one can be crafted post-Moon Lord.

Items

There are a lot of useful items in the Dragon Ball Terraria mod. We will cover the most important ones such as accessories, weapons or armors. Just now there are a lot more, as furniture or consumables.

Crafting materials

To build most of the Dragon Ball Terraria mod items, you will need the following items in pre-hardmode:

Item nameAvailabilityHow to get it
Stable Ki CrystalNo requirementsDropped from Forest, Snow, and Desert enemies
Scrap MetalNo requirementsSold by the Merchant
Empty NecklaceNo requirementsCraft
Earthern ShardEater of Worlds or Brain of Cthulhu defeatedDropped from all enemies
Calm Ki CrystalEater of Worlds or Brain of Cthulhu defeatedDropped from Surface Jungle enemies
Astral EssentiaQueen Bee defeatedDropped from Harpies
Skeletal EssenceSkeletron defeatedDropped from Dungeon enemies
Prideful Ki CrystalSkeletron defeatedDropped from Underworld enemies

The principle is the same for hardmode, the more bosses you kill and progress through hardmode, the better the Terraria Dragon Ball mod materials you unlock.

Crafting Tables

There are only two crafting tables in Dragon Ball Terraria mod. One is for pre-hardmode and the other for hardmode.

The Z-Table is the one you get in pre-hardmode. You craft it from Scrap Metal and Stable Ki Crystal on a workbench. The other one is the Kai Table you craft it from more advanced Dragon Ball Terraria crafting materials, Chlorophyte Bar, Pearlwood, and a Z-Table.

Weapons

There are a lot of weapons in Dragon Ball Terraria mod, coming from the Dragon Ball franchise. We will cover the most iconic but you have to know there are a lot more.

  • Trunks’ Sword: an hardmode sword with a fast speed and a strong knockback ignoring up to 50 defense.
  • Farmer’s Shotgun: the only range weapon added by Dragon Ball Terraria mod. It’s an early game weapon firing a spread of bullets.
  • Ki Blast: an early game Ki weapon that fires 2 inaccurate small projectiles. It deals 19 damage at the cost of 15 Ki.
  • Masenko: a weapon you need to charge a minimum of 2 seconds before using. It deals 72 damage which is a lot for a relatively early game.
  • Kamehameha: you surely know this one if you know Dragon Ball. It fires a blue beam that you have to charge for a few seconds before unleashing.
  • Big Bang Attack: it shoots a large projectile at high speed with a large area-of-effect blast.
  • Supernova: it fires a massive energy sphere moving slowly. The more you charge it, the more damage it does.
  • Candy Laser: an hardmode weapon shooting a pink ray. It transforms the target into chocolate or candy restoring mana and health if it doesn’t kill her.

Armors

There are also a lot of armors in Dragon Ball Terraria mod. There are 3 sets for pre-hardmode and 5 sets for hardmode including:

  • Turtle Hermit Armor: an early game armor giving some defense and increasing max Ki and Ki damage. This armor set resembles the uniform which Goku wears in Dragon Ball.
  • Saiyan Battle Armor: a post-Skeletron armor whose effects are similar to the ones you get from Turtle Hermit Armor but improved. It’s the armor Vegeta wears in Dragon Ball.
  • Demon Armor: you can get it after defeating mechanical bosses. It increases Ki damage, max Ki and Ki regeneration. If you wear the full set, pressing your “Armor Bonus” key will grant you unlimited Ki for a limited time.
  • Elite Saiyan Armor: a post-Fishron armor that is the upgrade of the Saiyan Battle Armor. When wearing the full set, if you take fatal damage you will recover to full health and get your damage doubled for a short time. This effect has a 1-minute cooldown.

Accessories

Dragon Ball Terraria mod adds some accessories to the game in different categories: Movement, Health and Mana, and Combat. Some of them are:

  • Ki Chip: very useful accessory as you can get it in the early game and it increases the Ki charge rate.
  • Battle Kit: pre-hardmode accessory increasing Ki damage and reducing Ki usage.
  • Time Ring: hardmode accessory increasing health and Ki regen.
  • Spirit Charm: a post-Plantera accessory increasing Ki-related stats and giving 3+ max minions.
  • Radiant Glider: a post-Moon Lord pair of wings.

Final Note

There is a lot more to know about Dragon Ball Terraria mod. As we can’t cover anything in one article, I advise you to have a look at the official Dragon Ball Terraria mod wiki!
