Terraria is full of items that your character’s Inventory can’t hold all of them. In fact, there are over 5000+ of them, but we doubt you’ll hoard everything. A normal playthrough should consist of exploring the world and keeping the good loot. But what if you run out of space?
In this no-nonsense guide, we’ll teach how to craft your very first Chest.
Chests – Explained
Chests can hold up to 40 item stacks if you play on desktop, mobile, console, and 3DS versions. That value is halved in old-gen consoles. You can remove them using a Pickaxe or a Drill once they’re fully emptied . But be wary if you’re renovating since you can’t destroy the ground beneath.
Overall, there are 42 Chest variants in Terraria, with 27 craftable and 20 naturally occurring.
Making a Chest Easily
You can craft your first Chest even at early Pre-Hardmode. Here’s how:
Items Needed | Crafting Station |
• Wood (8) • Lead Bar or Iron Bar (2) | Work Bench |
Since you almost always spawn in the Forest, you can chop nearby trees. Dig down to find Lead or Iron Ores, and smelt them into Bars using a Furnace. You can make a Furnace with Any Wood type (4), Stone Block (20), and Torch (3). Lastly, you can make a Work Bench with Wood (10).
Alternatively, if you’re having a hard time getting Ores, you might be lucky to encounter Living Trees and Caves. Those places usually have Chests with good loot. Make sure to take them with you!
