Inexperienced players sometimes stumble upon this resource when venturing into the Desert biome but don’t spend enough time collecting it. However, spending some time to acquire 60 pieces would allow you to create Fossil Armor, a powerful set for rangers.

With this resource, you can also make a solid caster item, two throwing weapons, an upgraded Bomb, and a new pickaxe. Throwing weapons, in particular, go well with the armor set, and you can use them to stomp pre-Hardmode.

How to acquire Sturdy Fossil in Terraria?

This material is unique to the Desert biome. You can get it from local endemic species and crates that are spread throughout the area. Players can acquire the mineral from drops/loot or by using Extractinator. However, you cannot mine it, unlike the traditional ores. Here’s how to get the material:

 • Basilisk drop (33.3% chance, only on Hardmode)
 • Tomb Crawler drop (50% chance)
 • Oasis Crate (50% chance)
 • Mirage Crate (50% chance)
 • 10% chance to get Sturdy Fossil when you put Desert Fossil in Extractinator

Ideally, you should roam around the region trying to find Oasis and Mirage Crates. Besides having a high chance of dropping Sturdy Fossil, they also store numerous pieces. You can find 10 to 16 units inside these crates compared to 1 or 2 that drop from Basilisks and Tomb Crawlers.

There isn’t a general strategy that would help you acquire these materials. For example, there isn’t a Tomb Crawler statue that would quickly spawn these creatures. Perhaps the best way to go about things is to rush the Crates, but you shouldn’t neglect Tomb Crawlers you come across.

As you go around the biome, you should also keep every piece of Desert Fossil you come across. When you return to base, you can put the resource into Extractinator. If you’re a ranged character, you can always utilize Sturdy Fossils, as they allow you to create Bone Javelins and Bone Throwing Knives.

Although you can also get this mineral from Basilisks, the monster is only available on Hardmode. In other words, by the time the creature spawns, the resources will become obsolete.

Items made from Sturdy Fossil

Crafting with Sturdy Fossil is somewhat similar to making items from traditional ores. You can create a signature set and a pickaxe, but this is where the similarities end. You don’t have access to swords, bow, repeater, pike, hammer, or axe.

Items made from the material help with the ranged combat. The set, in particular, is great for players who just want to use throwing weapons. Here are all the items you can make from this material:

 • Scarab Bomb
 • Amber Staff
 • Bone Javelin
 • Bone Throwing Knife
 • Fossil Greaves
 • Fossil Helmet
 • Fossil Plate
 • Fossil Pickaxe

To make all this equipment, you’ll need a total of 87 Sturdy Fossil pieces.

Scarab Bomb

Unlike its predecessor, Scarab Bomb can stick to objects. It’s much easier to handle and is especially nice when destroying Shadow Orbs and Crimson Heart. Unlike the majority of explosives, it creates vertical blasts. This feature makes it relevant throughout the game. Scarab Bomb is primarily used for clearing space but can also be a fantastic weapon.

Amber Staff

This caster item has the same stats as Ruby Staff. It doesn’t excel at anything, and you’ll quickly swap it with something better.

Bone Javelin

Bone Javelin is an excellent weapon that you can use throughout pre-Hardmode. It does solid 20 damage leaving Penetrated debuff on enemies. This effect does 3 damage per second for 15 seconds. You can stack the debuff 6 times for a total of 18 damage per second.

Unfortunately, Bone Javelin doesn’t penetrate enemies. In that sense, it isn’t the best choice during events and certain boss fights. However, it can be an excellent choice against single targets.

Bone Throwing Knife

Bone Throwing Knife is another unique weapon that you can make from this mineral. Unlike its predecessor, it doesn’t leave a debuff. Still, it can penetrate up to five enemies making it an optimal choice in certain situations. The throwing weapon is also incredibly quick.

Fossil Pickaxe

This mining tool has 55% pickaxe power, which puts it on the same level as Gold Pickaxe and is slightly weaker than Platinum Pickaxe. However, it’s worth noting that this item is slightly faster than both of them. Although the tool cannot mine the same blocks as 70% mining power Deathbringer Pickaxe, it has the same effective speed.

The best thing about this item is that you can get it relatively quickly as there aren’t any special requirements for obtaining Desert Fossil.

Fossil Armor

To assemble this armor, you’ll need Greaves, Helmet and Plate. The complete set provides 13 defense, a 50% chance of retaining thrown items, and a 20% chance of retaining ammo after firing a weapon.

Individual pieces provide some extra perks to ranged combatants. Helmet increases ranged critical hit by 4% while increasing throwing weapons’ speed by 20%. Plate increases critical for throwing weapons by 15% and ranged damage by 5%. Lastly, greaves improve throwing damage by 20% and ranged critical by 4%.

The armor remains relevant throughout the game. For example, it provides a few major benefits to quick, ranged weapons such as Minishark. Of course, it also helps reduce the consumption of Bone Throwing Knives and Bone Javelins.

7 excellent tips for mining Terraria Palladium Ore https://avidgamer.gg/terraria-palladium-ore/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=terraria-palladium-ore Fri, 16 Sep 2022 20:05:33 +0000 https://avidgamer.gg/?p=1773 More...]]> Terraria Palladium Ore is, together with Cobalt, the first mineral available on Hardmode. For the resource to appear on the map, you have to destroy a Demon or a Crimson Altar. Additional veins spawn after you smash the 4th, 7th, 10th, etc. altar. With each new cycle, fewer units appear on the map.

For the most part, this resource is just a stepping stone to Mythril or Orichalcum Ores. Unless you have an atrocious armor set and weapon, you shouldn’t waste too much time digging this mineral. Instead, you should just rush the third Hardmode ore, which will either be Titanium or Adamantite.

How to acquire Terraria Palladium Ore?

To extra this material, you need two tools: Pwnhammer and Molten Pickaxe.

You get Pwnhammer after killing Wall of Flesh. When you kill this boss, the world will also convert to Hardmode. Pwnhammer and its successors can be used to destroy Demon and Crimson Altars, which can’t be touched by any low-tier hammers. In other words, you need a tool of 80% or higher hammer power.

When Palladium starts popping on the map, you can mine it with Molten Pickaxe. This is the strongest pre-Hardmode extraction tool with a pickaxe power of 100%. Of course, you can use even better pickaxes later on when they become available.

It’s worth noting that Molten Pickaxe is a really difficult tool to assemble. The recipe requires 20 Hellstone Bars assembled at the Iron or Steel Anvil. However, to create just one bar at a Hellforge, you’ll need three Hellstones and one Obsidian piece. Hellstones are tricky to mine as they’re always surrounded by lava.

Items made from Palladium Ore

When you mine the first few pieces of Palladium Ore, you can use them to smelt columns and bars at the Furnace. Once you get Palladium Bars, a new list of items opens in front of you. You can now make breastplate, chainsaw, helmet, headgear, mask, drill, leggings, pickaxe, pike, repeater, sword, and waraxe.

Most of these items require 12 or 18 bars to assemble. The only exception is the breastplate, which requires 24 units. The most notable items from this collection are the pickaxe and the drill. You can use them to mine Mythril and Orichalcum. As mentioned, if you’re rushing Plantera, you can skip all other pieces.

Palladium Armor

To assemble this set, you’ll need a breastplate, leggings, and either helmet, mask, or headgear. The full armor gives you the Rapid Healing buff that temporarily increases your regeneration each time you hit an opponent.

Using headgear is better for casters as it boosts their mana, magic damage, and magic critical strike. Mask increases melee speed and damage, while helmet improves ranged damage and critical hit.

Tips for mining Palladium Ore

Here are some fantastic tips that will help you during resource extraction:

 • You can find this resource at Cavern or Underground level. It shines bright red, and people often confuse it with orange Copper.
 • Make sure to assemble Molten Pickaxe before killing Wall of Flesh. This tool is necessary for mining the first Hardmode ores. You should try to upgrade all your equipment to Adamantium/Titanium level and kill Mechanical Bosses as soon as possible. After eliminating them, you can go for Plantera, which will slow down the spread of Corruption or Crimson.
 • Although your first instinct is to destroy as many Demon or Crimson Altars as possible, to spawn more minerals, try to avoid this urge. Instead, you should only dig enough Palladium to create a new mining tool, which would allow you to mine the next-tier resources. Otherwise, you’ll have to deal with rampant Corruption or Crimson.
 • There’s also a chance to get this resource from various crates. Out of all these compartments, Pearlwood Crate gives you the best odds of obtaining the material. Fishing Palladium Ore and Bars can be a good strategy if you want to postpone the destruction of altars at the start of Hardmode.
 • Before starting a game, calculate how much ore you’ll need to smelt bars for the pickaxe. This can save you some time.
 • Creating a network of shafts will make the extraction much easier. You can even install Minecarts for some extra mobility.
 • Like with any other mineral, Spelunker Potion will make your life much easier.

How to make a Chain in Terraria? https://avidgamer.gg/how-to-make-a-chain-in-terraria/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=how-to-make-a-chain-in-terraria Fri, 16 Sep 2022 06:04:43 +0000 https://avidgamer.gg/?p=1735 More...]]> People often wonder how to make a Chain in Terraria. Although this material is used for numerous recipes, it’s not that common. We use it to assemble watches, chandeliers, Grappling Hook, and Sawmill. Given that most of these items are cosmetics that you don’t actually need, you won’t have that many opportunities to create this material.

One interesting thing about this item is that you can use it like Rope to climb walls. You can place it just about anywhere and use it to get out of chasms. Like with Rope, you can combine numerous Chain pieces to create a net that you can use for vertical and lateral movement.

How to make a Chain in Terraria?

Here’s the basic recipe that gives you ten pieces of Chain:

 • Steel or Iron Bar
 • Steel or Iron Anvil (crafting station)

The recipe is straightforward, and you can make the first pieces at the start of the game. Steel and Iron Ore are readily available, and you only need one unit to complete the item. You can stack 999 pieces, and each one of them sells for two silver.

Although you can use it for climbing, as previously mentioned, most people only use it as a material for other stuff. So, if this is your first playthrough, there is a good chance you won’t have the need to assemble Chain for a while.

However, the item becomes a bit more common in the late game when you start messing with house designs. Aside from using it for chandeliers, which is a common cosmetic, you can also use it to create timers for various mechanisms.

Using Chain for other items

Truth be told, people rarely use the Chain for climbing. The Rope is much cheaper, and you’ll find a lot of it during your voyages. So, the item is primarily used to assemble other stuff, such as:

 • Various chandeliers
 • Heart Lantern
 • Grappling Hook
 • Various watches
 • Sawmill

Chandeliers

Chandeliers are a furniture class that you commonly start making in the late game when you don’t have anything better to do. They serve as a light source but are most popular as decorative pieces. To assemble one, you’ll need four pieces of the base material, four torches, and a chain.

Heart Lantern

Heart Lantern is a cool item that you make by combining four units of Chain and a Life Crystal. In many ways, it works like chandeliers: you hang it from a ceiling, and it provides light.

One thing that makes Heart Lantern unique is the Heart Lamp buff. This effect provides one health-per-second regeneration to nearby characters. Even better, you can combine the Heart Lantern buff with Campfire’s Cozy Fire buff to double regeneration. This is a good way of countering DoT debuffs.

Due to its cool appearance, Heart Lantern can be used as a decorative piece while providing real combat value.

Grappling Hook

Grappling Hook belongs to the category of items that you place in special equipment slots. By aiming at a wall above, you can grab ahold of its surface and pull yourself upward. It’s a budget solution for climbing out of the holes.

To assemble this tool, you’ll need three Chains and a Hook. Unfortunately, as you progress through the game and gain boots and wings, Grappling Hook quickly becomes redundant.

Watches

Watches are neat items that you can equip in an accessory slot. Once you do so, a small clock appears in the corner of your screen, showing the in-game time. They are rather expensive, requiring ten pieces of an appropriate bar and a Chain.

Aside from the clock function, you can also use them to create timers. These are advanced mechanisms that allow you to turn objects on and off.

Gold Watch and Platinum Watch are the best items in this category. By combining either one of them with Compass and Depth Meter, you can assemble GPS. Later on, you can use this tool to make PDA, which allows you to create the Cell Phone, the most advanced utility accessory in the game.

Sawmill

Lastly, you can combine a Chain with two Steel or Iron Bars and ten pieces of Wood to create Sawmill. This crafting station allows you to assemble a plethora of furniture items, such as pianos, dressers, and bathtubs.

Sawmill is a necessity if you’re looking to build themed homes. You can also use it to make Loom, which is a crafting station for different vanity sets. Although you can make numerous things with Sawmill, you don’t actually need it to complete the game.

Guide to Terraria Water Walking Boots https://avidgamer.gg/water-walking-bootsterraria/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=water-walking-bootsterraria Thu, 15 Sep 2022 12:44:24 +0000 https://avidgamer.gg/?p=1587 More...]]> Water Walking Boots in Terarria have a simple and straightforward function. As the name implies, their main purpose is to allow players to move around on liquids without having to worry about drowning.

Basics stats, features, and acquisition

Here are the item’s basic features:

Requires Drops from Ocean Crate, Seaside Crate, or Water Chest (9% chance)
TypeAccessory
RarityLight Red
Sells for4 gold
EffectsAllows walking on liquids (except lava)
Prevents damage when falling onto these liquids

Out of the three compartments, the easiest way to get the object is from Water Chests. These items appear within large bodies of water greater than 250 tiles. To acquire one, you should go to the edge of the map (that is, the Ocean biome). You should find one of these chests at the bottom.

Alternatively, you can find the accessory within Ocean Crates and Seaside Crates. You can get either one of them while finishing in the Ocean. Keep in mind that Ocean Crates spawn pre-Hardmode and Seaside Crates appear on Hardmode.

To make things easier on yourself, we suggest getting a quality Fishing Pole and a high-tier bait. You might also consider using some fishing boosts and potions.

Terraria Water Walking Boots pros and cons

You can easily find this item, and it’s available from the get-go. On rare occasions, these boots can save your life by preventing drowning. They can also be a nice way to prevent fall damage when dropping into the water from a height. The accessory is especially powerful when combined with Obsidian Skin Potion, allowing you to walk on lava.

Unfortunately, this piece of equipment isn’t that great for several reasons. First off, there are much more powerful items in Terraria. Even if you find the artifact straight away, there’s a good chance you’ll give an advantage to some other magical object.

Secondly, being able to walk on liquids is nice and all, but it has limited usefulness. There aren’t that many bodies of water in the game, which makes the feature a bit redundant. Having the ability to walk on honey is even less relevant, especially when we consider that honey is only present in the Jungle biome.

Occasionally, the accessory can even be a hindrance. For example, let’s say you wish to dive into a pond to mine a nearby ore. The item will prevent you from doing so. Alternatively, you might want to dig a hole at the lake’s bottom so that its liquid falls on lava and turn it into obsidian.

As long as this item is equipped, you won’t be able to do either of these things. The truth is, the item has some viability if you’re willing to change it continuously with other accessories. However, this can be a major nuisance, especially during early pre-Hardmode when you’re just looking to progress through content.

Recipes using the accessory

For the most part, this is just a transitional accessory that becomes obsolete rather quickly. You can use it to create Lava Waders and Obsidian Water Walking Boots.

Lava Waders are made by combining previously mentioned boots and Molten Charm. They allow you to walk on just about any liquid in the game. More importantly, you can use them to gain immunity to fire blocks and avoid lava damage for 7 seconds. When the lava eventually starts burning your feet, you’ll receive less damage while wearing them.

Lava Waders are one of the best boots in the game. You can use them to assemble Hellfire Threads and Terraspark Boots, the second which is considered the best item within the category.

Obsidian Water Walking Boots combine the Water Walking Boots and Obsidian Skull. The new item provides the same benefits as the predecessor, adding fire blocks immunity on top of that. These two accessories are somewhat interchangeable, and you can use either one of them to assemble Lava Waders.

Terraria: How to Get Demonite | Full Guide 2022 https://avidgamer.gg/how-to-get-terraria-demonite/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=how-to-get-terraria-demonite Sat, 03 Sep 2022 10:10:02 +0000 https://avidgamer.gg/?p=657 More...]]> Demonite in Terraria is a tier six ore and one of the best resources in the normal mode. You can smelt it to gain bars, which, in turn, can be used to make speedy Shadow Armor. With the right ingredients, you can also use it for Deer Thing, a powerful summoner item that can call upon Deerclops.

To research the mineral, you’ll need 100 pieces of the resource (25 pieces for bars). We classify it as a blue rarity item. Generally speaking, this material is much easier to obtain than Crimtane Ore, as you can find large deposits within the ground.

How to extract Terraria Demonite Ore?

You can extract the resource from different places, most notably Cavern and Underground. There’s also a 100% chance Eater of Worlds and Eye of Cthulhu (only on corrupt maps) will drop this ore. You might also get some extra ore from different Eater of World parts.

An exciting thing about Terraria Demonite is that you can acquire it relatively early in the game if you have bombs. That way, you’ll gain access to one of the best armor sets in the game with little to no time invested.

You can recognize the resource based on its light blue glow. To mine it, you’ll need a pickaxe that has more than 55 power. You can extract it as soon as you get Platinum or Gold Pickaxe or Reaver Shark. You can sell the mineral for 10 silver and the bars for 30 silver.

How to use Demonite Ore?

Before using the mineral for any recipe (except for Deer Thing), you need to turn it into bars or bricks. Here are the recipes for both:

Demonite Bricks

The recipe requires:

 • Ebonstone Block (5 pieces required)
 • Demonite Ore
 • Furnace

Once you use the ingredients, you’ll get 5 bricks made from the same mineral.

Demonite Bars

The recipe requires:

 • Demonite Ore (3 pieces required)
 • Furnace

Once you get the bars, you can start working towards Shadow Armor and a few powerful weapons. All recipes that use the bars require Iron or Lead Anvil as the main crafting station. You get these early in the game, so there shouldn’t be any problem. Here are the things you can craft with Demonite Bars

 • Shadow Greaves
 • Shadow Scalemail
 • Shadow Helmet
 • The Breaker
 • Nightmare Pickaxe
 • War Axe of the Night
 • Malaise
 • Fisher of Souls
 • Light’s Bane
 • Magiluminescence
 • Demon Bow

The most notable item on the list is Magiluminescence, an accessory that increases your movement speed by 20%. Aside from that, the artifact also creates light around the users, making it invaluable in dark environments.

Deer Thing

The recipe requires:

 • Demonite Ore (5 pieces required)
 • Lens
 • Flinx Fur (3 pieces required)
 • Crimson or Demon Altar

Deer Thing is a fantastic consumable that allows you to summon Deerclops. It’s worth noting that the creature can only be summoned in the Ice or Snow biome.

Shadow Armor

Athough we love Magiluminescence, and always prioritize Nightmare Pickaxe as soon as we get the first bars, this Armor is probably the best thing you can craft with this mineral.

To assemble this set of equipment, you’ll need Shadow Scalemail, Shadow Greaves, and Shadow Helmet. The item is excellent for the melee class, as it provides a 21% melee speed increase. However, as it also provides a 15% movement speed boost, anyone can benefit from it. The effect is especially great if you’re an experienced player and want to save time moving around the map.

The set also gives you a total of 19 defense. To assemble the whole set, you will need 45 Shadow Scales and 60 bars (180 ore from this mineral). You can combine pieces from this set with pieces from Ancient Shadow Armor without losing the movement speed buff.

Terraria Mythril: Everything You Should Know https://avidgamer.gg/terraria-mythril/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=terraria-mythril Sat, 03 Sep 2022 10:05:48 +0000 https://avidgamer.gg/?p=533 More...]]> Mythril is a resource that only appears on Hardmode. The ore spawns only after you destroy the second Crimson or Demon Altar. Occasionally, Orichalcum Ore will spawn instead of this mineral. You can find this resource in various Hardmode Crates and Cavern biome.

To research it, you’ll need 100 pieces of the mineral. It is classified as an orange rarity item, and to create all the related equipment in the game, you’ll need a total of 155 bars. Upon extracting your first piece, you get an achievement called “Extra Shiny!”

How to extract Terraria Mythril Ore?

Upon killing the Wall of Flesh, three distinct Demon or Crimson Altars will appear on the map. You need to find the second one and destroy it with a tool that has more than 80% hammer power. When you demolish the Altar, Mythril or Orichalcum Ore will become available in the world.

Once you destroy the first three Altars, you can continue the cycle by destroying the fourth, the fifth, and the sixth Altar. This would create a new set of ores, but at a diminished rate. You can continue the process for as much as you like, but with progressively smaller returns.

When you find Mythril Ore on the map, you’ll need a drill or pickaxe that has 110 power or more. Specifically, you’ll need Palladium Pickaxe, Cobalt Pickaxe, or something better. Aside from extracting the resource, you might also find it in certain crates.

You can sell the mineral and its bars for 11 silver.

How to use terraria Mythril Ore?

Initially, you can use this material only to create bars and bricks. Later on, you can use the bars for advanced recipes. Here’s how you make both of items:

Mythril Brick

The recipe requires:

 • Stone Block
 • Mythril Ore
 • Furnace

You can use one brick to get 4 same-resource walls.

Mythril Bar

The recipe requires:

 • 4 Mythril Ore
 • Furnace

Before you can start crafting equipment with this mineral, you will need an Iron or Lead Anvil and 10 Mythril Bars to create a Mythril Anvil. Alternatively, you can create this equipment with Orichalcum Anvil. Here is a list of all the weapons and armors you can make with it:

 • Chainmail
 • Hood
 • Hat
 • Greaves
 • Helmet
 • Drill
 • Chainsaw
 • Pickaxe
 • Halberd
 • Repeater
 • Sword
 • Waraxe

Mythril Armor

To assemble the Armor, you’ll need Chainmail, Greaves, and one of the Hood, Hat, and Helmet. Hood is ideal for casters, Hat is geared towards ranged characters, and Helmet is optimal for a melee class.

The set properties will vary based on the headgear you have. With the Hood, you get 24 defense, while the Helmet and the Hat provide 37 defense and 27 defense, respectively.

The choice of headgear will also affect passive bonuses. The Hood reduces your mana usage by 17%. The Helmet improves your melee critical hit by 10%, and the Hat gives a player a 20% chance not to use ammo.

Later on, you can upgrade all these armor pieces into Dragon Armor .
