Every world in Terraria is unique. Different monsters spawn, resources may be present, and some features from one biome may not exist in another. This advantage makes the game enjoyable, despite its creation in 2011.

One significant and arguably essential element in Terraria is Blocks. Although there are different types in-game, we’ll discuss everything in this guide about them and their classifications.

Blocks – Overview

A Block is a single unit of what makes a Terraria world. It carves how terrain and biome would look. Among different samples are Dirt and Stone, which you’ll see often. But there are 192 total blocks, which gets rarer depending on your gameplay progression.

Using any Pickaxe, Explosive, or Drill will extract Blocks. Note that mining them without entirely breaking them will display a crack. However, it’ll recover slowly if the action is unintentional and unfinished. If the material is under an object such as Altars, Cacti, Chests, and Trees, destroying them first is a must. Swapping tiles, though, is possible for Chests and Altars.

Overall, a single block can take one inventory slot for 999 pieces.

Fun Fact: It’s possible with a Hammer to create half blocks and angled slopes. Several blocks act as a background:

 • Bubble
 • Inactive Stone Block
 • Living Fire Block
 • Smoke Block

You’ll get two achievements for breaking blocks: Bulldozer and Landscaper.

Uses

The most common use for a Block is for making walls to prevent enemies from reaching you. Moreover, it powers a player’s creativity, whether it’s making a Spiral Staircase or an extravagant Castle.

Other purposes are meant for decorations, mechanisms, and more.

Terraria: How to Remove Corruption (Full Guide 2022) https://avidgamer.gg/how-to-get-rid-of-corruption-in-terraria/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=how-to-get-rid-of-corruption-in-terraria Thu, 15 Sep 2022 19:55:24 +0000 https://avidgamer.gg/?p=1722 More...]]> The Corruption is one of three evil biomes in the game, alongside Crimson and Hallow. Each one of them has a tendency to slowly overtake your world, preventing you from accessing other materials. In the end, you might lose progress and will resort to creating a new file.

As the environment changes, so do the monsters. The newly converted biome will bring tougher enemies such as Eater of Souls, Devourer, and many more. Having one and the same opponents also limits the loot you can acquire in the game.

What are Corruption and Crimson?

Corruption and Crimson are two evil biomes in the game. We also have Hallow, a Hardmode exclusive biome that spreads in a similar way as these two but doesn’t cause the same issues.

Whenever you create a new world, there’s a 50% chance that one of these two evil biomes will appear. Mostly, they’re interchangeable and works similarly except from monsters, loot, and bosses.

It’s easy to tell if a world is turned into Corruption or Crimson based on color schemes. The Crimson biome features a blood red color, while the Corruption environment has musky purple. Each one of them has a unique music theme playing as you traverse the area.

Aside from the music and colors, there are other things that indicates an evil biome. Corruption features purple mountains, grass, and numerous dead trees. The background effects are also gloomier compared to healthy regions. This is the only place where you can find Chasms, Shadow Orbs, Ebonstone, Demon Altars, and Vile Mushrooms.

The bosses in these two areas are also different. Brain of Cthulhu is common for red worlds and Eater of Worlds for purple ones.

What Corruption Does to Your World

As time passes, this biome will start spreading its influence. The surrounding areas will turn purple, trees and grass will change, and the infected area will be inhabited by different monsters. Here are the main reasons why you should stop this spread:

 • This evil environment can destroy other areas, thus preventing game completion.
 • It’ll remove other monsters and bosses from the game, making it impossible to get certain loot.
 • The monsters that spawn in this environment are much tougher, making the game tougher overall. It’s best to avoid them at the start of the game.
 • NPCs won’t spawn in Corruption and Crimson regions. If it affects your base, it’ll prevent the spawning of Steampunker, a vendor who sells a tool for removing infected tiles.

Aside from all these things, the spread also affects playability. You don’t want to fight the same opponents over and over again. The game quickly becomes dull and frustrating.

How does the Corruption Spread?

Here are some rules regarding Corruption spread:

 • Corruption blocks can covert almost any block as long as they’re within three to six tiles.
 • During pre-Hardmode, the infection can only affect bushes and grass. So, creating a stone wall on both sides of the biome is a good solution that would temporarily stop the spread.
 • Once you reach Hardmode, the spread will also occur underground and can go through stone and vines. It becomes more menacing, turning any tile into its Corruption counterpart.
 • The infection normally spreads during pre-Hardmode. Once you kill Wall of Flesh, it starts spreading at double speed and turns back to normal after defeating Plantera. When the game goes into Harmode, you should rush this boss as soon as possible.
 • Keep in mind that the infection spreads six times faster on the surface, so this should be your priority when removing the infected blocks.
 • The best way to determine the spread speed is by checking the surface. The infection will first start affecting grass, turning it from green to purple color. This will also spawn thorns, which can cause damage as you run through them, making traveling annoying.
 • Like the biome, thorns take over surrounding areas, spawning in larger quantities as long as they’re four tiles from health blocks.
 • Be careful when destroying Demon Altars. Their destruction is necessary for spawning new Hardmode ores. However, crushing one of them will also turn random blocks on the map into their Corruption counterpart. That way, the infection can spread to areas you previously insulated.
 • When certain biomes become infected, this will lead to the creation of new, unique monsters. For example, the Corrupted Desert will allow the spawning of Dark Mummies.

How to get rid of corruption in Terraria?

The best way to tackle the issue is by introducing preventative measures during pre-Hardmode. Given that the spread is negligible during this phase, you can take your time and create massive structures, thus getting ready for Hardmode.

Protecting the base

The first thing you have to do is to suspend your base in the air. This will prevent infection from spreading to your houses. In other words, you can rest assured that the NPCs will always spawn within the base. This is crucial when you unlock Steampunker and Clentaminator.

Keep in mind this will cause a few issues until you can create a Bed. You’ll always spawn on the ground, beneath the base, and you’ll have to climb up to reach crafting stations.

Alternatively, you can dig a massive moat around the base that spreads horizontally and vertically. This will insulate the ground just beneath the structure. You can leave it empty, or you can fill it with non-corruptible materials.

Ideally, the moat should be six tiles wide on all sides, thus preventing the spread from the outside. Keep in mind that Corruption Blocks might still appear beneath your base when you destroy Demon Altars.

You might also consider placing Hallow Blocks around your base, encircling them with Mud Blocks from the inside. Hallow will stop the spread of Crimson and Corruption from the outside, and Mud Blocks prevent the spread of Hallow toward the inside. Unfortunately, this also means that Hallow enemies will start appearing close to your base.

Hellavator and segmentation

Hellavator is a hole that leads straight to lava level. It’s an efficient way to traverse the underground, and it definitely speeds up your mining time.

Hellavators have another purpose, and that’s the segmentation of the map. You can use them to isolate the base along vertical lines, as well as biomes of interest (Jungle, in particular). That way, you can rest assured that the Corruption won’t spread from the sides, especially on the surface.

Alternatively, you can make two Hellavators on both sides of the evil biome. By doing so, you contain the whole zone.

After creating a few Hellevators, you might also want to consider creating horizontal shafts that spread throughout the map. You can even install Minecarts for fast travel between sections. By doing these things, you’ll split up the map into sections. If Corruption starts converting a part of the map, you can go there and remove troublesome blocks.

These steps are especially effective if you don’t destroy too many Demon Altars.

Clentaminator

Clentaminator is a tool that you can buy from Steampunker after defeating mechanical bosses. It allows you to shoot different types of solutions, turning nearby blocks into appropriate biomes. For example, you can use it to turn regular blocks into Hallow, Crimson, and Corruption counterparts, but also to revert them back to normal.

Clentaminator is great for the surface, but it tends to struggle while underground. As you’re moving through the shafts, you can’t spray all of the infected tiles within the ground. One of the best ways to improve its efficiency below the surface level is by creating Hellavators and spraying both sides of the walls as you go downward.

To make the most out of the tool, it’s recommended that you perform map segmentation, as explained in the previous section. Keep in mind that these solutions are extremely expensive. One unit costs 25 silver, and to buy a stack of 999 Green Solutions, you need more than 25 platinum coins.

Out of the five available solutions, you need to focus on Green Solution that allows you to purify blocks are restore them to the previous biome. The material works like ammo by placing it in ammunition inventory.

How To Make a Castle in Terraria? https://avidgamer.gg/castle-in-terraria/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=castle-in-terraria Sat, 03 Sep 2022 10:33:17 +0000 https://avidgamer.gg/?p=1236 More...]]> To make a castle in Terraria, you don’t need hours and hours of work. If you have enough materials, you can whip it up in one afternoon. The great thing about building a Terraria castle is that you can build it with just stone, adding silver and platinum here and there. Of course, you’ll also need a lot of Wood.

Unlike some other types of popular Terraria homes, castles are pretty straightforward. There are numerous items you can use for decoration, and you’ll never be short of ideas.

The basic materials for castle in Terraria

The simplest way to create a Terraria castle is by mining a lot of Stone Blocks. You could turn them into Gray Bricks that are much more visually appealing. This would serve for exterior walls. As for the background walls, you should go with plain Gray Brick Walls.

In theory, Silver Bricks, Silver Brick Walls, Platinum Bricks, and Platinum Brick Walls are also great materials. However, they are much harder to acquire. Gold Bars are crucial for King’s and Throne Room, and Treasury. You will also use various Iron Bars for crafting stations.

Wood is another resource that you’ll constantly use. The simple Wood works well, but you might also consider getting some Rich Mahogany. We also like Dynasty Wood for certain sections. You also need Cobweb that you’ll turn into Silk. Torches are necessary for all sources of light.

castle rooms and room layout

To put it simply, the number of areas will depend on your personal preferences. You can create a 5-room castle, or you can create a structure with 20. In our opinion, these are the most common areas that every castle needs:

 • Throne Room
 • Treasury
 • Armory
 • Guards’ Room
 • Blacksmith
 • Wizard’s Room
 • Apothecary Room
 • Ballroom
 • King and Queen’s Room
 • Catacombs
 • Corridors connecting all these rooms

We’ll now break down each of these rooms, talking about items you might consider adding.

Throne Room

You need to place the Throne Room in the center of the castle. It should be the largest area within the structure. The throne or thrones should be placed on a slightly elevated surface (two to three blocks up). You can also place Queen and King Statues nearby.

Do not save on lighting within it. Add at least four Chandeliers. We suggest something like Gold Chandelier to demonstrate opulence. Although this might sound strange, Honey Chandelier might also work well in this case. No matter what, avoid gray colors as they might meld with the background.

You can also place Obsidian Vases on blocks suspended in the air. Paintings are a must for the Throne Room. We’d also put several Banners between the Paintings.

Treasury

Treasury should be rather simplistic. The room should be adjacent to the Throne room and not particularly big. You can fill it up with Gold Coins, put different bars in it, and a few Golden Chests. Install Wooden Platforms and put various vases and decorative gold items on them.

Like the Throne Room, you can place various Paintings and a Safe on Treasury walls.

Armory

You need to fill the Armory with Sword, Spear, and Helmet Racks. You can also use Weapon and Item Racks to suspend high-tier armor and weapons on its walls. The good idea is to create upward stairs on both sides of the Armory leading to the Guard’s Room.

Unlike the Throne Room, Armory should have Hanging Braziers and Tiki Torches as the main sources of light. You should also add a few Crates and Barrels. If you wish, you can have a separate training space for knights. Put a Training Dummy or two in this area.

Guards’ Room

As mentioned, it is crucial to connect Armory and Guard’s Room. Most importantly, this area should have several beds. Make sure to create a Wooden Table (or Bar) with two Wooden Chairs on both sides. Place minor decorative items on it, such as Bowls and Mugs. You can also put a Keg nearby.

Guard’s Room can also feature a Hat Rack. Add Banners and Hanging Braziers on the walls. It can also feature a Sword or a Spear Rack, but it should have less than the Armory. We’d also add a Fireplace between the Wooden Table and the Keg.

Blacksmith

Blacksmith should be on ground level or perhaps below ground level. It should be in the most secluded part of the Terraria castle.

The most important thing about the Blacksmith is to use less light compared to other areas of the castle. You can place just one Torch or Hanging Brazier nearby. Put a Furnace and an Iron/Steel Anvil close to each other. You might also consider adding a Heavy Work Bench and a Sharpening Station a bit further from Anvil and Furnace.

We also like the idea of having Ebonwood or Shadewood Work Bench nearby. You can add a Blacksmith Rack and perhaps a Carpentry Rack.

Wizard’s Room

Ideally, you can position Wizard’s Room with a terrace in the upper sections of Terraria Castle. It should be somewhat larger than the other areas. In one corner, make sure to add a Skyware Bed, Skyware Table, and Skyware Chair. Skyware Bookcase, Skyware Candle, and Skyware Dresser would also be nice.

Wizard’s Room also requires an Alchemy Station, a Placed Bottle, and a Cooking Pot/Cauldron. To make it a bit fancier, consider putting a Teapot and a Teacup on the table. You can also place additional Wooden Platforms for Books.

Apothecary Room

Apothecary Room should be placed on mid-level or upper-level of the Terraria castle (across Wizard’s ). Unlike the Wizard’s Room, all the furniture inside should be made from Living Wood. Having some critter statues is a great idea, as it would allow the spawning of little animals.

Daybloom Planter Box is one of the defining features of this space. You should also add stuff like Hanging Herbs, Potted Crystal Plants, Hanging Pots, and Seaweed Planter. Make sure to add a few Wooden Platforms where you will place Dragonfly Jars, Butterfly Jars, and Fairy Jars. Like Wizards Room, this area can feature a Bookcase and a Cooking Pot/Cauldron.

Ballroom

The Ballroom’s ideal placement is in the central, mid-level of Terraria castle. This should be one of the longer areas within the structure. Place various Paintings and Banners in it. The Ballroom should have the same type of Chandeliers as the Throne Room.

Put a Fireplace in the center and add a Golden Piano with a Candle on top of it. You might also consider adding a Golden Sofa or two if it does not feel too stuffy.

King and Queen’s Room

Place King’s and Queen’s Room on the highest floor. Put it between Wizard’s and Apothecary’s Rooms. It should be much larger than the other sections of the castle. Make sure to place several items from Golden Furniture set in it.

Use the same Chandeliers as in other luxurious rooms. Golden Bed, Golden Dresser, and Golden Work Bench would look fantastic here. We also like the idea of having an adjacent toilet, which could feature items such as a Golden Bathtub, Golden Sink, etc.

This is one of the rare areas where you should feature different walls. Glass Wall and White Dynasty Wall are good choices. You should also place two Banners on the walls.

Catacombs

We haven’t seen many Terraria castles with Catacombs. However, this is too good of an idea to pass by. The room should be situated below the ground level. You could possibly dig a bit deeper and connect Catacombs with a flight of stairs.

To create a spooky feeling, make sure to add just one or two Skull Lanterns or even basic Torches. Potentially, you could use a darker wall such as Smooth Granite Wall. This would make it look muskier. Place a few Catacomb items within this space.

Consider adding Armed Zombie Statue, Bat Statue, or Bone Skeleton Statue to spawn monsters.

Corridors connecting all these rooms

Lastly, you should add corridors between the rooms. They will make the castle feel less stuffy. These spaces should be as simplistic as possible, featuring only Braziers and occasional Banners. You can also create windows by placing Stone Blocks in the right shape and not putting walls behind them.

If you wish, you might also consider creating your own personal area. It would serve as the spawning point for your character.
