Everything you need to know

General Information

The Bloody Machete is a type of thrown melee weapon that returns to the player after damaging an enemy (non-piercing), traveling for 23 tiles away as it quickly falls downward, or hitting a solid object.

When normally used, the Bloody Machete will not emit light. It also phases through any type of block when returning to the user. The Bloody Machete can also squeeze through one-block-wide gaps at the right range, albeit having the shortest travel distance because of its movement behavior. When used on liquids, the Bloody Machete’s travel speed and range drastically decrease.

It is a general rule to aim above enemies for unlimited piercing when using the Bloody Machete. This unique property is possible thanks to all Boomerang’s capability of phasing through walls. One can easily handle a wave of slightly weak enemies and deal decent knockback with the Bloody Machete.

As more enemies approach, the player could get in close range and land consecutive attacks, as the weapon’s use time is determined once the boomerang returns.

Since the Bloody Machete is a melee weapon, some accessories, all flasks, and armor can enhance its travel range, flight speed, and apply flask-related buffs.

Surprisingly, most early-game Boomerangs are outperformed by the Bloody Machete, which is only beaten by the Thorn Chakram. However, one must be at the right time and event to acquire the weapon.

The Bloody Machete is best modified with Godly or Demonic, providing a wide array of stats improvement.

Type: Weapon
Type of Weapon: Boomerang
Mode: Pre-Hardmode (Halloween)

Strengths & Weaknesses of the Bloody Machete

Strengths

  • Better choice than most Pre-Hardmode Boomerangs.
  • Decent cooldown reset.

Weaknesses

  • Travel movement prevents inflicting 2x damage to enemies.
  • Travel movement prevents damaging enemies behind solid blocks.
  • Subpar projectile travel speed.

How to get the Bloody Machete

The Bloody Machete is dropped by any weak enemy once slain while the Halloween event is ongoing (0.05%). Because of the low drop chance, it is recommended to do so during Blood Moon with Water Candles placed nearby to increase enemy spawn rate. The Summoner class is the best option, as players only need to enclose themselves with a solid barrier while minions do the hard work. It can be obtained as early as Pre-Hardmode.
