Terraria (Wiki): Volcano (Fiery Greatsword)
Everything you need to know
The Volcano (Fiery Greatsword (3DS, old-gen consoles) is a broadsword that deals damages to multiple enemies, inflicting the On Fire! debuff (50%) for 3s. It is the sword with the second-longest reach and second-highest damage among all other swords in pre-Hardmode. It lacks auto-swing and has a slow swing speed, however, when the Volcano strikes an enemy, it creates an explosion of tall plume of fire and smoke particles in the air. The explosion is AoE, dealing 75% damage and inflicting On Fire! debuff (100%) for 3s (desktop, mobile, console). The bright particles that the Volcano emits make it useful for discovering ore and exploring caves.
The Volcano is a great option for melee crowd control in pre-Hardmode due to its explosion and high knockback. It has a damage equal to that of the Night's Edge (desktop, mobile, console), making it the sword with the highest damage output among all those swords that can be used to craft the Night's Edge.
The Volcano is the final ingredient for Night's Edge that can be obtained through "usual" game progression; it involves a trip to the Underworld and a risky mining expedition. However, even before slaying Skeletron and looking for the Muramasa, one could make an early Underworld raid and obtain the Volcano.
The Volcano is best modified with Legendary to improve all stats.
