Although a resting place for the dead, the Graveyard Biome is anything but peaceful. Hostile mobs spawn here regardless of the time of day, and zombies can open doors!
How do you create a Graveyard?
Graveyards are created when 5 or more tombstones are close to the player.
There are two ways to obtain tombstones:
- Through the death of a player
- The death of an NPC in a world containing a hardcore character
Graveyards can either be created manually by placing tombstones, or created naturally through player-dropped tombstones.
Special Hostile Mobs
The Graveyard Biome comes with a few new special hostile mobs.
Raven
The Raven is found at any time of day in the graveyard. You can also find them in the Forest Biome at night during the Halloween Event.
Drops:
- The Raven has no special drops.
Behavior:
- Ravens act similarly to Vultures. They perch while idle and take flight if the player gets to close or if they take damage.
Maggot Zombie
The Maggot Zombie can be found roaming the Graveyard at any time of day.
Drops:
- Up to 3 Maggots (critters)
Behavior:
- The Maggot Zombie behaves like a normal Zombie, attacking the player on sight.
Ghost
Ghosts are found in the graveyard at any time of day. They can also spawn after a player breaks a tombstone, or underground/in the caverns during the Halloween Event.
Drops:
- The Ghost has no special drops.
Behavior:
- Ghosts hover around and can go through solid blocks to attack the player.
The Groom
The Groom is a zombie variant who spawns rarely in a Graveyard Biome. They can also be spawned during the Blood Moon.
Drops:
- Top Hat (Vanity Item) (90% drop rate)
- Brain (Summoning Item) (Old-Gen consoles & Windows Phones only) (75% drop rate)
- Bloody Tear (Event Summoning Item) (Blood Moon only) (20% drop rate)
Behavior:
- Behaves like a normal zombie, attacking the player on sight.
The Bride
The Bride is a zombie variant who spawns rarely in a Graveyard Biome. They can also be spawned during the Blood Moon.
Drops:
- Wedding Veil (Vanity Item) (100% drop rate)
- Wedding Dress (Vanity Item) (100% drop rate)
- Bloody Tear (Event Summoning Item) (Blood Moon only) (20% drop rate)
Behavior:
- Behaves like a normal zombie, attacking the player on sight.
Hoppin’ Jack
The Hoppin’ Jack is a Hardmode enemy found at any time of day in the Graveyard Biome. They can also be found at night during the Halloween Event.
Drops:
- The Hoppin’ Jack has no special drops.
Behavior:
- The Hoppin’ Jack behaves like a slime, who jumps around and attacks the player.
- Although it acts like a slime, it still attacks the player even if they have the royal gel equipped.

Certain NPCs have special items in store when they are within the proximity of a graveyard.
Clothier
Grave Digger Set (Vanity)
Contains:
- Grave Digger Hat (10 Gold)
- Grave Digger Coat (10 Gold)
Funeral Set (Vanity)
Contains:
- Funeral Hat (10 Gold)
- Funeral Coat (10 Gold)
- Funeral Pants (10 Gold)
Victorian Goth Set (Vanity)
Contains:
- Victorian Goth Hat (10 Gold)
- Victorian Goth Dress (10 Gold)
Tragic Umbrella
The Tragic Umbrella can be purchased for 10 Gold. When held, it slows the player’s fall.
Painter
The painter sells the following paintings (from left to right):
- Nevermore
- Reborn
- Graveyard
- Ghost Manifestation
- Wicked Undead
- Bloody Goblet
- Still Life
They all cost 1 Gold.
He also sells Illuminant Paint for 2 silver, which makes blocks glow in the dark.
Cyborg
The Cyborg sells Echo Blocks (10 Silver) and Spectre Goggles (10 Gold).
Steampunker
The Steampunker sells the Bone Welder for 10 Gold.
The Bone Welder is required to make Bone furniture. It can also be found in the Dungeon.
Arms Dealer
The Arms Dealer sells the Quad-Barrel Shotgun for 35 Gold after Skeletron is defeated.
It has a very large spread, twice that of the Shotgun and fires 6 bullets per shot.

Use time: 55
Dryad
The Dryad sells Crimson and Corrupt Seeds in Hardmode, depending on the main Evil biome of the world.
When planted in a dirt block, they spread Crimson/Corruption in all directions. They cost 5 Silver.
Dye Trader
The Dye Trader sells Fogbound Dye for 7 Gold 50 Silver.
Party Girl
The Party Girl sells Release Doves for 1 Silver.
Tips
- There is a large amount of Ecto Mist in the Graveyard Biome, allowing players to craft unique items
- Every Zombie has the ability to open doors in this biome.
