Everything you need to know

General Information

The Volcano, also known as the Fiery Greatsword (3DS, old-gen consoles), is a Pre-Hardmode metal broadsword that performs a long-ranged swinging motion in an arc, damaging enemies behind and in front of the player. Upon enemy contact, the Volcano (50%) will inflict the On Fire! debuff for 3s.

Two enemies can be pierced at a normal range, although an infinite amount is possible should they line up. The Volcano also has a long reach of six tiles radius. It is incapable of autoswing.

The Volcano has the second longest reach and highest base damage of all Pre-Hardmode Swords. This fact is also true when compared to all crafting ingredients of the Night’s Edge (as well as having tied base damage to the resulting weapon).

When used, the Volcano creates an explosion upon enemy contact, dealing 75% damage of the weapon’s base damage. Targets caught within the blast are affected but have a 100% chance to inflict the On Fire! debuff for 3s instead of the baseline 50% in direct hits.

Some weapons emit light while also being capable of inflicting damage against enemies behind a cover. The Volcano can do the former, making light particles useful for finding caves and ores, although its attacks will not pass through walls.

Of all Broadswords, the Volcano offers the highest base damage and is one of three variants with the strongest knockback. However, it comes to the expense of having the slowest usage cooldown. Despite those facts, the Volcano proves useful against large waves of enemies with the knockback-damage combination.

Since the Volcano can swing above the player, it is viable for flying and jumping enemies. The resulting damage can also be enhanced by consuming any Flask type.

By applying the Legendary modifier, the Volcano will experience improved stats for the following:

  • Damage: +15%
  • Attack Speed: +10%
  • Critical Strike Chance: +5%
  • Size: +10%
  • Knockback: +15%
  • Tier: +2
  • Selling Price: +209.85%
